I had to do a 5min talk on alpha for Future Alpha. Wanted to be slightly controversial. Everyone's talking about data and AI. Few commented on context. AI is compressing the old edges. Filing analysis, transcript parsing, sentiment, ... most are getting commoditized. If everyone has the same LLMs and the same data vendors, none of it is a moat. IMO, the missing piece is context. Most firms run AI in a chat window completely disconnected from their research, their risk constraints, their prior decisions. Every day they start from zero. ... which is an infrastructure problem.
