What happens when your legal team is paying for a consent management platform—but can't actually use it? 👀 That's exactly what compliance advisor Latoya Davidson found when she stepped in to help a global travel tech company get their privacy program back on track. The legal team had the authority to approve or deny data trackers. The product team had the access. And no one on legal could verify whether their decisions were actually being followed. After switching to Osano, everything changed: ✅ Legal can now independently verify what's on their sites—in real time ✅ They can block unauthorized scripts themselves, without waiting on another team ✅ They identified and removed high-risk scripts that had been added *after* being explicitly denied As Latoya put it: "They didn't think a tool like this existed." ☘️ 3rd time's the charm--can the SECURE Data Act succeed where the APRA and ADPPA failed? From where we're standing, this iteration of a federal data privacy law isn't looking too promising... but there's plenty of time in the legislative process for it to be revised. The SECURE Data Act: ✋ Preempts state privacy laws ❌Has no private right of action 👎Lacks bipartisan support Read our overview of the law here 👉https://pvcy.me/3QVtrpY

🙃 The patchwork just got that much patchier: Alabama's passed the #APDPA, making it the 21st state in the US to enact a data privacy law. It's modeled after Virginia's privacy law, but between its niche definition of a "sale," low applicability thresholds, and high penalties, it--just like every other US privacy law--presents a unique compliance challenge in and of itself. What do you need to know about the APDPA, and how can you get compliant? Find out in our blog 👉 https://pvcy.me/4e8E56F

😴 Some legacy privacy vendors are resting on their laurels. They're content to sell complicated, hard-to-use tooling and wish businesses good luck. That leaves legal and privacy pros no better off than before they had a privacy solution in place. This is *exactly* what happened to CompliHow's client. They came to CompliHow looking for a better approach to consent management and found Osano—now, their legal department's never been happier. 2️⃣1️⃣ Alabama becomes the 21st state to pass a comprehensive data privacy law! As far as US data privacy laws go, the Alabama Personal Data Protection Act (APDPA) sits on the more business-friendly side of the spectrum. It adheres to the Virginia-style of privacy laws, much like the recently passed Oklahoma data privacy law, but as always, the APDPA has its own quirks: 🚧 A low applicability threshold, kicking in for businesses that process just 25k Alabamans' PI, or who derive 25% of revenue from the sale of data. ✔️ Businesses with fewer than 500 employees are exempt (so long as they don't sell PI). 🤝 "Sale" = monetary consideration OR other valuable consideration, but only when the business receives a material benefit and the party receiving data is not restricted in its usage (plus some additional exemptions). There's plenty of nuance to unpack here (like that rather precise "sale" definition), so stay tuned for our full write-up on the APDPA! #APDPA #DataPrivacy #Alabama
