What does the future of engineering look like? 🌍💡 This summer, #QEPrizeAmbassadors joined students from more than 90 countries at the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF CIC), sharing their experiences and encouraging young people to pursue careers in STEM. Through conversations about innovation, problem-solving, and the power of engineering to improve lives, they helped inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists. As QEPrize Ambassador Dr Eng Ofetotse said: "See yourself as someone who can shape the future." 🫀 To celebrate #WorldHeartDay, we are taking a look at the world's first large-scale virtual model of a human heart, which can be seen in our Engineers gallery at the Science Museum Group. The model was created by bioengineer Dr Jazmin Aguado-Sierra using scans of her own heart! This breakthrough allows researchers to simulate how the heart functions and responds to various conditions; whether it beats too fast, too slow, or irregularly. It also enables doctors to test treatments digitally before applying them in real life. This technology could pave the way for full-body digital twins, transforming how we predict, diagnose, and treat illness. It’s a powerful example of how engineering and innovation are shaping the future of healthcare. ✨⚕️

Congratulations to #QEPrize2026 Laureates Ingeborg Hochmair, Erwin Hochmair, Graeme Clark, and Blake Wilson for receiving the 2026 Richard N. Merkin Prize in Biomedical Technology.👏 Earlier this year, the Hochmairs, Clark, and Wilson were amongst the #QEPrize2026 Laureates who were recognised for their development of modern neural interfaces that restore human function. The Laureates, alongside Michael Merzenich, have been awarded the Merkin Prize for their development of the modern cochlear implant – which has helped restore hearing for over a million people worldwide! Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering reposted this
Last week the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering judging panel came together for the first meeting of the #QEPrize2027 cycle. I left thinking about how much attention we give to breakthrough inventions, compared with the challenge of deploying existing technologies at scale. This week, Europe's largest industrial carbon capture facility officially opened in the Netherlands, capturing CO₂ from fertiliser production and linking it to permanent offshore storage. What interests me isn't just the technology itself, but the scale of engineering involved - process engineering, infrastructure, transport, and monitoring, all working together internationally to address a critical problem. Many of the solutions we need for the future already exist. The real challenge is often how we deploy them more widely, more quickly, and more effectively. What engineering solution do you think is ready to make a bigger impact than it currently is? https://lnkd.in/emxwCZu5 #Engineering #ClimateInnovation #NetZero
