Our crews are working long hours alongside Hawaiian Electric as they work to restore power and repair infrastructure following Hurricane Lala. So far during their deployment in Hawaii, SCE crews worked on 75+ spans of downed power lines, replaced nine poles, repaired 30+ poles, replaced 40+ crossarms, fixed damaged equipment, cleared trees and helped rebuild electric infrastructure to restore power to the community. SCE drone operators also inspected and patrolled more than 100 miles of line to support restoration efforts. SCE journeyman Sean Mc Keon shares a look into his day on the Big Island, noting how welcoming and appreciative the residents are when they see our lineworkers.

When Hawaii needed support after Hurricane Lala, getting out-of-state crews there was only part of the challenge -- getting the specialized equipment across the Pacific was another. After the State of Hawaii authorized the use of a C-17 aircraft, SCE’s Transportation Services team sprang into action, preparing trucks for air transport in just hours. Thanks to close coordination with the U.S. Air Force and Hawaii Air National Guard, the vehicles arrived on the Big Island and were quickly put to work. Their efforts are helping our crews restore power safely and efficiently alongside Hawaiian Electric. The work to keep power reliable doesn't stop when summer arrives. Our crews perform maintenance and upgrades year-round to help keep the electric grid safe, strong and ready to serve customers. In Cathedral City, crews replaced equipment and upgraded a transformer while taking steps to keep outage times as short as possible. 🤝 Partnership in mutual assistance Our SCE crews worked alongside Hawaiian Electric, Hawaii Air National Guard and Pacific Air Forces to transport our utility trucks from Southern California to Hawaii to support continued recovery after Hurricane Lala. Our crews are making progress restringing power lines that were knocked down by fallen trees, braving heavy rain and wind. Our teammates are thankful for the support and gratitude they are receiving from impacted locals.

When Hurricane Lala left communities across Hawaii without electricity, SCE crews answered the call to help. Through a mutual assistance effort with Hawaiian Electric, lineworkers are repairing downed wire, replacing poles and restoring critical service. Crews are working through challenging weather conditions while keeping safety at the forefront.
