The New York City Public Schools system is the largest public school district in the United States, with more than 1,800 schools serving over 1.1 million students. As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to investing in a strong and prosperous future, continuous upgrades to school facilities play a crucial role in maintaining safe and effective learning environments. To support this effort, SIE was retained by the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) as the Prime Consultant to provide construction management services for dozens of school construction projects across all five boroughs. Our staff oversee a wide range of critical repair, addition, and improvement projects at various school facilities, including auditoriums, nursing stations, science labs, and design studios. In support of NYCSCA’s long-term commitment to student health and wellbeing, SIE also helps deliver new playgrounds, fitness rooms, and ADA accessibility upgrades such as ramps, accessible water fountains, and improved travel paths. Additional building improvements include electrical and mechanical system upgrades, fire alarm systems, window replacements, HVAC enhancements, roof repairs and replacements, and façade and masonry work. Additionally, a key component of many projects is flood resiliency. To prepare for severe and unpredictable future storms, SIE is helping NYCSCA employ flood mitigation and weatherproofing measures throughout the school system to ensure that every school is a safe and reliable facility for its students and staff. Through these improvements, SIE is proud to support NYCSCA in achieving its primary goal: “to create school environments that reflect the needs of our communities today – and prepare our students for the challenges of tomorrow.

Manhattan’s 14th Street busway continues to demonstrate how thoughtful street design can improve urban mobility. Since its launch in 2019, the corridor has increased bus speeds by 24% and ridership by 30%. New proposals aim to build on that success with improved bus stops, bike lanes, and enhanced pedestrian spaces. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ek8W8ADX

Maintaining the safety and reliability of bridge infrastructure requires timely inspections and targeted repairs. SIE is supporting NYSDOT through design services that address deficient steel elements on state-owned bridges across New York City, helping ensure structural issues are identified and resolved quickly. Stormwater mitigation plays a critical role in protecting transit infrastructure. Currently, SIE is providing inspections and structural assessments of hundreds of subway street vent batteries across New York City.
