  • Happy publication day to Pause, by Shawn and Anne Vanderhoven! Congratulations, Shawn. This amazing book is now available wherever books are sold! Get your copy here: https://lnkd.in/gMqGzsaJ.

Five years ago, if you’d told me I’d write a book about slowing down, I probably would’ve laughed.   What changed wasn’t my personality. It was a question I couldn’t stop asking.   Everywhere I taught, I met talented people who genuinely wanted to do great work, yet many worked in environments that made that far more difficult than it should have been. Constant interruptions, competing priorities, and even leaders with the best intentions often pulled people’s attention away from the work they cared most about.   I found myself asking: What was the difference between leaders who created space for people to focus and those who unintentionally amplified the existing chaos? To find out, I started asking everyone I could two questions.   Tell me about a leader who created space for you to focus on priority work. What did they do? Now tell me about a leader who made it nearly impossible. What did they do?   Hundreds of interviews and thousands of survey responses later, patterns began to emerge. Those patterns became the 12 Pauses. Each Pause is a leadership practice that helps leaders create an environment where people can do their best work. We found that no leader practiced all twelve consistently. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s knowing which Pause your team needs most right now.   Today, Pause is finally out in the world!   I’m deeply grateful to the hundreds of people who shared their stories, the thousands who completed surveys, the early readers who patiently worked through drafts and more typos than anyone should have had to endure, and everyone who challenged our thinking along the way. Thank you for helping shape this book into something far better than we could have written alone.   My sincere hope is that Pause helps more leaders create the conditions where people can focus in an otherwise distracting world. People show up wanting to use their talents and do work they’ll be proud of. The question is whether we will create the conditions that make that possible.

Where does a leader begin? When they get the corner office? The first fancy title? The first direct report? The origin of a leader actually happens much earlier than that. The most significant predictor of how you show up in your interpersonal interactions as a leader—and as a human—is your childhood. For more than thirty-five years, I’ve worked with some of the country’s most well-known executives to transform their leadership, finding success in their work and in their lives. I wrote The Origin of a Leader: Transforming Family Patterns into Leadership Power so you, too, can change your leadership and your life for the better. In my book, I take readers into their childhood backstory, remembering who they were and seeing what was role-modeled for them. Then by understanding the implications of their childhood, they’ll gain deep insights that will illuminate patterns for them. From there, they’ll learn exactly how to have real conversations that can transform the world and the lives of those around them, from the boardroom to the living room. Simon Acumen will release the book on September 1st, 2026. Learn more about The Origin of a Leader here: https://lnkd.in/gZtTR6kP and start reading the book right away. I can’t wait to share more with you, so follow along.
