Congratulations to Norah Lesperance, James MacLellan, Victoria Koretsky, and Mason Hodges on completing their summer 2026 internships at Strathmore! Each intern brought incredible organization, enthusiasm, creativity, and professionalism to the Strathmore team. In particular, they took the lead on all aspects of our beloved Live from the Lawn free concert series, gaining valuable hands-on experience in event management and helping make this summer’s concerts a success. With The White Swan, MCYO Philharmonic transformed Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake into an immersive performance experience. Student musicians moved throughout the hall, soloists became characters, and the orchestra became part of the story. The project challenged young musicians to think beyond traditional performance conventions and embrace new possibilities for musical storytelling. “I want them to be comfortable with pushing boundaries, changing the status quo, changing the norm. Building a big band ✨ This February, we introduced the Strathmore Jazz Orchestra, our new in-house big band bringing together musicians from DC to NYC. Projects like this create space for artists to work at a scale that isn’t always possible. More to come next season.

Strathmore joined the The Links, Incorporated, Silver Spring Chapter for the annual Black Family Wellness Expo, highlighting the connection between health, well-being, and community. We're grateful to Strathmore board member Catherine Leggett for connecting us with this free, family-friendly event. Did you know that Strathmore is far more than just a world class performing arts venue in Montgomery County, Maryland? Beyond its campus, Strathmore provides programing that facilitates access to the arts for individuals and groups within our community. As part of Strathmore's Bloom Access Initiative, nearly two hundred Montgomery County middle school students receive tuition-free after-school coaching from professional instrumentalists throughout the year. Just last week the students gathered for a large-scale public performance to share their talent and celebrate their extraordinary work. Music teachers report that students' string skills and their ensemble playing have improved tremendously because of the program!
