As a part of the Codex Creator x Handshake Challenge, I built a small side project. 'American Health Atlas' is an interactive map for exploring county-level health data and national health insurance coverage data across the United States. This site is an interesting visualizer of public data pulled from sources like County Health Rankings + U.S. Census SAHIE. It works by color coding counties based on selected health data metrics, allowing you to click on a county and view a quick profile on the data available. Special thank you to Handshake and OpenAI for offering $100 in token time to the Codex Development Tool, allowing students like me to gain experience bringing their ideas to life. As AI skills quickly become a baseline across every industry, from marketing and operations to finance and healthcare, employers are seeking candidates who aren’t just familiar with AI, but can use these tools to build and ship real work. For his latest article, Handshake’s Head of Economic Research, Randy Tarnowski, explores a key question: Does Gen Z’s rapid adoption of AI translate into real adaptability in the workforce? Our data and student insights point to yes. Early talent is not just experimenting with AI; they’re becoming fluent in the latest tools and programs. The Class of 2026 is noting AI skills on their resumes at twice the rate of their Class of 2022 predecessors. And students themselves are clear about their skills: "I've used AI to help with code that I built for a business, and they use it at least once a week for payroll.
