Low head dams are dangerous. They will drown you. April is low head dam awareness month. Follow these tips before heading out on the water. ⚫Download a water trail map beforehand to locate potential dams and hazards before heading out on the water. ⚫Always be alert for potentially dangerous situations, if in doubt portage the obstacle. ⚫Always turnaround well before reaching a dam and maintain a safe distance from it. ⚫Obey all posted signage. ⚫Let someone know when and where you are heading out and when you expect to return, have a float plan. ⚫Never enter the water to try and help someone. Call 911, throw a life jacket or a rope, throw bag and pull them to safety. ⚫Always wear a properly fitted life jacket when you are on the water.
