As Ahmed Shihab points out, AI conversations often focus on compute power, but inference is also a constant engine of data creation. Every prompt, response, log, and interaction adds to a growing data estate that must be stored, governed, and used intelligently. As AI scales, the real challenge may not be generating outputs. It may be managing the flood of data that follows. https://lnkd.in/gVYkgb6t

At CNBC Converge Live in Singapore, our CEO Irving Tan shared why AI should fundamentally be understood as a data system—and why that perspective matters even more as the industry shifts toward inferencing. As AI processes and generates more data and insights, we’re entering a far more data-heavy phase—one that puts storage and the broader data architecture at the center of the conversation. “People tend to think of AI as a very compute-focused system. Actually, what is AI? AI is a data system. It consumes data, processes data, generates data and insight, and stores more data,” Irving explains. That shift is critical. Because while compute and memory can be reused, data persists—and compounds. As inferencing scales, the ability to manage, store, and feed that growing body of data efficiently becomes foundational. The future of AI won’t just be built on faster compute—it will be defined by how well we architect and scale the data system behind it. Watch the full session here: https://lnkd.in/e6kaZMPd

Proud to share WD’s Annual Sustainability Report — a look at how we’re advancing sustainable technology solutions while accelerating our impact for people and the planet.     In the report you can find a comprehensive view of the meaningful progress we’ve made as a company. Since 2025, five of our sites are running on 100% carbon-free energy with additional sites on track to achieve 100% carbon-free energy by 2030. We expanded our decarbonization and circularity targets and reached 66% carbon‑free energy across our operations. We were also honored to receive recognition for our efforts and commitment to transparency through earning a CDP Climate A‑ Leadership status and being named one of America’s Greenest Companies.     Innovation is powering the next chapter of our growth. Our Advanced Recovery and Rare Earth Material Capture program, in partnership with key stakeholders, is redefining circularity by recovering critical materials once lost to e‑waste. Looking ahead, we remain committed to innovating and expanding our efforts through new recycled content and emissions reduction goals.      As AI continues to transform and the demand for data increases, we’re empowering our teams with new skills and tools while ensuring responsible, ethical, and secure AI development across our business. Sustainability, responsibility, and innovation go hand in hand — and together, they shape a future where technology and stewardship reinforce one another.     Excited to share this year’s progress and even more excited for the sustainable future we are continuing to build!    https://lnkd.in/gUKYjEsN #AnnualSustainabilityReport2025  WD

When industry voices are talking about the future of AI infrastructure, one theme is clear: data matters more than ever.   Our CPO Ahmed Shihab shared why AI data centers should be viewed as data systems in his latest blog post. Chris Mellor of Blocks and Files discusses that perspective and reinforces why storage architecture, scalability, and long-term data management will be critical to the next era of AI: https://lnkd.in/gQAGfv2v

The tsunami is coming. Is your storage strategy ready? AI doesn't just consume data - it generates it, reconsumes it, and multiplies it at a scale most enterprises aren't prepared for. We're talking zettabytes. Then yottabytes. Our Chief Product Officer Ahmed Shihab joined Computerworld's Today in Tech podcast to have an honest conversation about the data infrastructure challenges hiding behind every AI breakthrough: 🔹 Why moving from AI experimentation to production triggers an entirely new level of data growth 🔹 The cloud vs. on-prem trade-offs that will define your storage economics 🔹  How edge computing is adding yet another layer of complexity 🔹 The role of agentic AI in managing data lifecycle at scale 🔹 What governance and compliance look like in an AI-first world One thing is clear: you can't delete your way out of this. Listen to the full episode and hear Ahmed break it all down: https://lnkd.in/eVZWWiqd

AI is moving faster than certainty. That’s why at WD, we’re not starting with technology—we’re starting with people. Because the most important question in this moment isn’t: “What can we automate?” It’s: “What must stay human?” As AI reshapes how work gets done, the real risk isn’t only job disruption—it’s the potential loss of purpose, ownership, and connection in the work itself. That’s why we’re focused on: 🔹 Designing human-first experiences 🔹 Using AI to reduce friction—not remove ownership 🔹 Building a workforce that can continuously adapt This is a perspective our CHRO, Katie Watson, recently shared at UNLEASH America. And it’s how we’re actively building the future of work at WD. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gr6famgR
