Also Aidan Borer on it as always 👌Sarah O'Sell shared thisLike many marketers, I’ve spent a lot of the last few years studying nostalgia. And now, as someone who wants to be a good doobie, I feel the need to say that nostalgia fatigue is coming, and most brands won’t see it until their carefully planned relaunches suddenly stop showing returns. The demand for comfort is real and enduring. Human-ology's tracking of American adults’ priorities shows three things have climbed fastest over the last seven years: freedom to make my own choices, making ends meet, and staying safe. In unsteady times, familiar comforts are beating novel thrills. So the instinct to reach for the reboot, the throwback packaging, the “remember when” campaign is right about what people are hungry for. It’s wrong about what nostalgia can actually deliver. Remembering feeling safe is not the same as feeling safe. Remembering optimism is not the same as being optimistic. Nostalgia is borrowing a feeling from a period when the conditions for it existed. It’s a loan, not income. When we measure stability, we look at three pillars separately: agency, sufficiency, and security. Nostalgia provides none of them. It makes their absence bearable for a minute, then more obvious. Am I saying brands should scrap their heritage positioning or the next reboot on their roadmap? No, not yet. But recognize that the emotional well you’re drawing upon is starting to run low. Eventually, we need to address what people actually need today and give them reasons to look to the future with hope rather than the past with longing.

Sarah O'Sell shared this💡 Every early-stage founder nervous about presenting should attend this workshop on September 9th! 🤖 AI-assisted pitch creation CAN be super helpful for pre-revenue founders who have the story arc down and need consolidated messaging clarity or design help. Poor design, non-standard flow/topics, unreadable graphics, and too many words can distract from the message just as much as AI slop. But you still have to seed the AI with brand foundations, pitch storyboard drafting materials, and direction for outcomes before asking it to help. And even I don't know of an AI tool that can actually create a solid deck or website that doesn't carry the AI "look" - excited to see what they share!Sarah O'Sell shared this"We don't want to waste time reviewing AI-generated pitch decks" is what I've been hearing from many VCs and angel groups. The bigger question is whether firms can capture that demand, without allowing compliance administration to consume their engineering capacity. The National Building Performance Standards Coalition includes 49 state and local jurisdictions representing roughly 25% of U.S. commercial building stock. IMT estimates that implementation of BPS and related programs across coalition jurisdictions could drive $132B in cumulative retrofit investment through 2040. That creates a significant opportunity for energy-service firms. But every new client portfolio can also mean more: - regulations to interpret, - buildings to track, - deadlines to monitor, - data to reconcile, and - reporting requirements to manage. Demand can scale faster than the operating model supporting it. That is why we believe the opportunity is bigger than making benchmarking faster. The real opportunity is to build a workflow where software handles regulatory complexity and portfolio coordination, while consultants focus on prioritization, diagnosis, and implementation. Vijay is a Seattle-based partner with a practice at the intersection of technology, energy and natural resources. He has an engineering background, and works with companies across the energy and mining sectors to develop and execute global IP strategies around technologies ranging from mineral extraction and processing to batteries, energy storage, decarbonisation and others in the industrial space. We talked about the increasing opportunity to connect innovative companies and technologies across the U.S. and Australian markets. The good news is that we will be seeing a lot more of Vijay in Sydney in 2027, which will give him an opportunity to work closely with our Australian energy and resources clients and teams. Wanna guess where my little family is headed? 🥁🥁🥁 ... Yellowstone! A 5 day adventure, my very first US national park. My kids made a list of all the animals they want to see. We heard there's a lot of driving involved, so we got Harry Potter audiobooks for the road. We're staying in lodges inside the park - and for once, nobody is bringing a laptop. Not a glamorous trip this time around, but one I've been looking forward to for months. Consider this my OOO ❤️
