In my years as a Hiring Partner, sitting on interview panels for developers, engineers, and IT professionals, I’ve noticed something fascinating. Some candidates speak about their technical expertise so confidently that you’d think they were the perfect fit—only for the reality of their delivery to fall short of the words. Then there are others who may stumble over their words or struggle to “sell themselves” in polished sentences, yet their work ethic, problem-solving ability, and commitment are unmatched. I recall one interview in particular. A young developer walked in, visibly nervous. He was so tense that the Hiring Manager suggested he take a moment outside to breathe and return when he felt ready. When he came back, he still couldn’t articulate his thoughts with ease. On paper, and by conventional standards, he was far from the “ideal” fit. But the manager saw something in his attitude, grit, and passion for learning—and decided to give him a chance, with probation as the true test. And let me tell you— Not only did he prove himself, but he later grew into a senior role and became a go-to team member. That experience taught me a powerful lesson about hiring in tech: 🔹 Skills can be trained. 🔹 Confidence can be built. 🔹 But passion, resilience, and attitude cannot be manufactured. The best hires aren’t always the ones who impress in the interview room—they’re often the ones who show up consistently, grow, and deliver when given the chance. Dear companies: How does someone get 5 years of experience without getting their first opportunity? You're asking for unicorns and wondering why you can't fill positions. Meanwhile, you're missing out on: The hungry recent grad who'll outwork everyone. The career changer with transferable skills. The coachable candidate who'll become your top performer. Here's what entry-level should actually mean: Willingness to learn Strong work ethic Good communication skills Professional attitude That's it. Stop creating impossible barriers. Every skill you listed can be taught in 90 days. Character and drive can't be taught at all. Hire for potential. Train for performance.

Four years. Four companies. Zero applications. Every role came through someone who remembered me, not for being perfect, but for showing up fully. Maildrip? My manager reached out. SmartFi? A stranger whose sneakers I complimented in a coffee shop. We talked tech, built trust, and he later recommended me for a project with his US client. Komodo? The CTO from SmartFi kept my name in the back of his mind. Here's what I've learned: Good work compounds in ways you'll never see coming. This isn't about being the most talented person in the room. I wasn't. It's about being someone others want to work with again. When you break something (and you will), own it early. When you finish a task, ask if there's anything else that needs attention. When a teammate is stuck, offer to pair program even if it's not your problem (Without burning out). These moments matter more than your GitHub stars. The market is brutal right now. Doing excellent work won't guarantee you the next job; that's not the point. The point is building the muscle of caring about your craft and the people around you. Some of my best opportunities came from former teammates who remembered how I handled the messy Tuesday afternoon when everything was on fire, not the polished demo I gave on Friday. You never know who's watching. You never know who will mention your name six months from now when someone asks, "Do you know anyone who...?" Do work you can stand behind. Be curious beyond your job description. Communicate like the adults you're working with deserve clear, honest updates. Most importantly: be easy to work with. In a world optimized for the bare minimum, there's still room for people who give just a little bit more. Not because they have to, but because they choose to. Your reputation isn't built in the moments when everyone's watching; it's built in all the small moments when they're not.

Stop Hiding on LinkedIn, You’re Losing Opportunities. Let me be blunt: If you’re invisible on LinkedIn, you’re invisible to opportunity. Here’s the reality nobody tells you: 🔹 Recruiters are searching here daily. 🔹 Clients are checking profiles before sending emails. 🔹 Even your next employer might already be scrolling past your name. But too many people treat LinkedIn like a dusty CV storage room. They show up only when they need a job—by then, it’s often too late. So, how do you stop hiding? Here are 3 practical steps: 1️⃣ Fix your headline Your headline is the first thing people see. If it just says “Student” or “Unemployed,” you’re underselling yourself. Instead, use keywords tied to what you do and what you want. Example: “Public Health Graduate | Aspiring HSE Specialist | Passionate About Workplace Safety.” 2️⃣ Post consistently (not perfectly) People overthink posting. They wait until they have a “perfect” idea. Truth is, LinkedIn rewards consistency over perfection. 2–3 posts a week about your field, your learning journey, or your insights will build more trust than staying silent for months. 3️⃣ Engage with intention Your comments are mini-posts. If all you ever write is “Nice post 👍,” you’re invisible. Instead, add perspective: “This reminds me of a project I worked on…” or “Interesting point, I see it differently because…” This shows your voice, not just your name. Opportunities don’t just come from job boards anymore. They come from visibility. And LinkedIn visibility isn’t about going viral it’s about being present. So tell me, are you really showing up on LinkedIn, or are you still hiding?

I work a lot with unemployed people through my nonprofit, helping highly educated immigrants find jobs. One of the reasons I fully recommend Cursor for vibe coding is that you can get started for free. The Cursor + GitHub + Vercel stack costs $0 for a very long time. You can build a portfolio site, learn coding, experiment with APIs, or even launch a lightweight SaaS - all without spending anything. It’s one of the most accessible ways to build skills that actually increase your chances of getting hired. This matters because highly educated immigrants face disproportionately high unemployment in Europe. In 2019, foreign-born individuals aged 20–64 in the EU had an unemployment rate of 12.3%, compared to just 6.0% for native-born workers. Nearly half of migrant college graduates across Europe are working in roles below their qualifications. It’s a massive underutilization of talent that costs the economy billions. Lightweight coding education with tools that cost nothing and let people build real products removes nearly all the barriers to learning. With something as simple as browser access and internet skills, anyone can gain career-relevant experience that dramatically improves hiring chances. In a context where credential recognition is tough and opportunities are limited, that kind of access is just priceless and something that individuals should take advantage of.

Here's how I will start today if I want to be #interview ready in 2 months. This has helped to me to land a high paying #remotejob in 2025 #DSA Love it or hate it, it is still the bread and butter of 90% of the interviews you are going to face. Now it is very difficult to master dsa in 2 months but you can reach a decent level by doing the #leetcode top 150. I don't think companies other than #google and #meta will ask anything out of this list. Solve all the questions and you are good to go (Should take 1 month if you solve 5 questions daily) This will prepare you for DSA rounds in #amazon #microsoft and more. #resume Do not make your resume by using notepad or MS word. Use some platform like #enhancv . You will get popular templates, #ATS checks and #AI features. Along with that, update your #linkedin and #naukri profiles. (Go to chatgpt and tell it your exp, skills and type of jobs you are interested in). It will give you everything. #SystemDesign This is becoming more and more important as the competition is growing. I will suggest Keerti Purswani 's free lectures on youtube. She teaches from the scratch and you will reallt enjoy it. Will not take more than 2 weeks to finish. #SQL Some #companies do ask SQL and it can set you apart from others. I will suggest #hacckerank SQL practice. There are 50 questions from basic to medium to advanced. Should be enough for any level of interview. #Linux go through the basic cmds of linux like grep, curl, find, mv, etc.. Some yt video on linux basocs should be more than enough. Apart from that, revise basics of OS and Computer Networks if you have time. If I were applying for a job right now, here are three things I would use AI for: 1. Finding jobs. AI is great at searching through large quantities of information, and finding matches for what you're looking for. This could involve building an AI agent that searches the internet for exactly what you're looking for and delivers it to your inbox each morning. It could involve using the AI features popping up on job boards. 2. Getting feedback on your candidacy. AI is pretty good at matching up your experience with what the company is looking for. It DOES have a tendency to be overly positive/generous as it wants to keep you happy, but prompting it to be extremely discerning and hold a very high bar will usually help you get honest feedback and avoid applying for jobs that you're unlikely to be competitive for. 3. Preparing for applications and interviews. An AI assistant can be helpful in giving you feedback on a response or helping you select from your experiences so you can choose what to highlight on a resume or application question. An assistant or one of the many AI interview tools out there can generate sample questions and give you feedback on your responses so you can work out the nerves ahead of your next interview. And three ways I would NOT use AI: 1. Applying for jobs on my behalf without my engagement. I have seen far too many AI appliers submit people for roles that aren't a good match, and in doing so, you might actually ruin your chances for future jobs. If a company sees you've applied for 10 jobs ranging from coordinator to Sr. Director, they're going to assume you're spamming them and stop taking your candidacy seriously. Some companies limit you to say, 3 apps every 6 months. So you end up wasting yours on bad fit jobs and not being able to apply when the right job pops up. Additionally, some companies are now checking IP addresses of the applier against locations and looking for evidence of AI as a guard against fraudulent candidates so you run that risk as well. 2. Filling out the application for you. I would certainly use AI to help gather my thoughts. But when I apply for a job, I want to put my best foot forward and AI isn't going to do that. AI responses are all generic and tend to use the exact same formula to respond which means your response sounds like 80% of the applicant pool doing the exact same thing. That's not gonna stand out from the crowd, and it really gives low B-player energy at best. In a saturated market, every company is chasing A players. 3. Using it live in an interview. Y'all I've seen way too many people pause to type stuff into an assistant and then read off a screen. Some try to be sneaky (repeating the question as a prompt). I've even experienced the AI filters at this point. You can use notes from your prep with an AI Assistant. But trying to use it live in the interview is just hurting you. So the TL;DR: Yes use AI, but only in ways that make you better and help you shine.

If you want a tech lead salary, Use this in your next 1:1 Yes, track your wins in a "brag doc." But promotion isn't just merit. It's timing, budget, and politics. Have this exact conversation: "I've been operating as a lead—mentoring Jake, driving the API redesign. What specifically do I need to show for the tech lead role? When's the next opportunity?" If they deflect: "I understand the constraints. Can we document what I need to demonstrate and your realistic timeline?" When they say "not ready," flip it: "Show me a situation where current tech leads handled something I haven't demonstrated yet." Vague feedback is often stalling. Build leverage beyond your manager. Get peer leads to advocate for you. Build relationships with skip-levels - they influence promotion committees. The uncomfortable truth: You'll do the job 6-12 months before getting paid for it. And sometimes your manager won't advocate for you—they might even block you because you're too valuable where you are. Your leverage? Market data and options. Know your worth. Get competing offers if needed, but be ready to leave. Some companies only promote when forced. If you're hitting walls despite performing at the next level, the problem isn't you. Sometimes the only promotion path is through a different company's front door.

STOP applying to jobs online Most experienced devs are stuck in the application black hole—spraying resumes, tweaking their CV, and praying someone notices. The problem with this is you’re just ANOTHER name in the pile... This leads to: • getting ghosted • frustration • questioning if you’re even good enough! After helping mid/senior devs double their salaries and land jobs in 3–4 weeks, here’s what I’d do instead: • Make your LinkedIn profile more professional (takes 30 mins) • Scout out 20-50 companies that you are EXCITED about • Start networking with them on LinkedIn or in person. 30-40% of all hires are made through referrals! That's close to HALF of all the hires. On top of that, employees are incentivized to refer others. When you’re top of mind and come with referrals, jobs CHASE you. Which leads to: • faster offers • higher pay • interviews that feel like conversations—not interrogations Now, experienced devs… ask yourself: Do you still want to personalise every CV? OR are you trying to be the one candidate who never had to apply? Companies know how valuable referrals can be. So why don't you start valuing them as well?

But look again—it reveals something deeper about how we measure productivity. 🧠 In-office work often gets romanticized as "collaborative" and "structured." But the reality? Much of the day gets fragmented—traffic, coffee runs, casual chats. Meanwhile, at home, despite the flexibility, many professionals are working more intensely and with fewer breaks. Not necessarily healthier, but definitely more focused.
