Patrick Kettner reposted thisPatrick Kettner reposted thisBig news: the second edition of Building Browser Extensions is here! When I wrote the first edition in 2022, extension development was under-documented and hard to navigate. Developers needed a practical guide to make sense of Manifest V3 and the power of the WebExtensions API. Since then, the ecosystem has transformed. Manifest V3 is now the standard, new APIs like the side panel and offscreen documents have arrived, and entirely new categories of LLM-powered extensions are possible. This edition adds expanded coverage of APIs, modern tooling like Vite, Extension.js, and WXT, plus hands-on tutorials for real-world projects including password managers, ad blockers, and AI assistants. I was also fortunate to work with the esteemed Patrick Kettner, Chrome Extension Developer Advocate, who served as both technical editor and foreword author. Thanks to Apress for working with me on another edition. Patrick Kettner liked thisPatrick Kettner liked thisOne of my outcomes from Wey Wey Web conference was Browser extensions presentation performed by Oliver D. Last week I’ve been experimenting with this approach and created a simple helper for our current project. It automates cookies management so we can authenticate default user and simulate tracking consent on test environments. A surprising novum for me was that the pop-up can contain SPA created with React, Vite and all every-day tools. And there was a need to use an Adapter pattern, so the tool integrates with an active tab as a browser extension, while it manages cookies of its own during local development. This is an essence of all kinds of meetups or conferences to me. I mean, I knew such approach exists. That days I’ve just have some time to think how it might help our team and got inspired enough to develop it during hacking Fridays.

Today we announced new capabilities for our Shop Direct and Buy for Me experiences on Amazon, enabling now feeds to facilitate external merchants to list reliably their product listings and reach millions of Amazon customers. Excited on this feature, that is a win/win experience for customers, merchants and brands. Excited to be part of such important project.

Part 2 is here (as promised 🚀). After last week's protocol wars breakdown, we're going deeper: building multi-protocol systems that scale. Real patterns for: 🏗️ Avoiding architectural debt (adapter pattern) 🔒 Security done right (GDPR, PCI, payment tokens) ⚡ Performance under pressure (10x spikes) 🔍 Finding bottlenecks fast (observability) 💻 Java/Spring Boot implementation Not just theory—battle-tested patterns. 📖 Full article: https://lnkd.in/gFXF3xFu Series progress: ✅ Week 1: Protocol strategy ✅ Week 2: Implementation & Architecture 🔜 Week 3: Payment layer (coming next) #AICommerce #SystemsArchitecture #RetailTech #Microservices #SpringBoot #EnterpriseArchitecture #DistributedSystems #SecurityEngineering #Java
