Vijay Mehrotra and I recently interviewed Richard Savoie, the founder and CEO of Adiona, a last-mile software vendor. See article for the link to the interview. This discussion reminded me of my LogicTools days. Here are my five big takeaways: One, in supply chain and transportation modeling, reducing costs directly correlates with emissions reduction. Richard created Adiona with the idea of reducing emissions. He discusses how last-mile logistics is a big source of emissions. But, just as important, when you come up with solutions to reduce emissions, you also tend to reduce costs. We saw this at LogicTools when we added carbon modeling to our solutions. The same solutions that reduced carbon also tended to create cost savings. When I talk to engineering students interested in emission reduction, I often point them to supply chain modeling. Two, presales is an interesting career. I’ve written about this before, and I’m sure students are tired of hearing me say it. In short, I find presales intellectually interesting, and it allows you to interact with customers. Richard backs me up. Three, operational tools can be used by the sales team. If you build a tool to help analyze and improve operations (like Richard’s last-mile product, or LogicTools’s supply chain design), you will often find users who are interested in sales questions. For example, in Richard’s case, the sales team wanted to use the product to understand the cost and impact of adding another client. Four product management is about trade-offs. At LogicTools, I did a lot of product management, but didn’t think of it like that. Richard also explains the trade-offs I saw: balancing conflicting customer requests and deciding what is best for the entire customer base. Richard also has a background in medical devices, so it was interesting to hear how that mindset applies to this space. Five, he takes a cluster-first, route-second approach. I’m always curious about the algorithms behind the solutions, especially in vehicle routing. I use these examples in my supply chain class. His approach to clustering sounds interesting. Enjoy the interview.

Feels like a full circle moment as Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s AI team is doing demos of Daxa, Inc to their customers. They understand the huge value Daxa’s AI gateway is to enabling required governance and security in an enterprise’s quickly evolving AI journey. As a prior CRO in data security, the key is to find solutions that do NOT slow down the strategic efforts of a build team while enabling them to run faster with the safety they want, need, and deserve. I am proud to be a board advisor to Huseni Saboowala and team as they know what “enterprise grade” means (they have delivered many times before) and they built something so needed in the world right now for AI to be embraced with security and confidence. Top enterprise CISO’s and other luminaries have put the solution through its paces and posted videos about their success with it. This is what we need more of in cybersecurity - transparency, real results, no hype, lose the BS claims that can’t be delivered on, and make security an enabler not an inhibitor.

𝐈𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲'𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢-𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 $20/𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐆𝐏𝐓 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? A new MIT NANDA report suggests the answer is a hard yes. While 80% of organizations have piloted GenAI, a staggering 95% get zero ROI from their investments. Even worse, only 5% of custom enterprise AI tools ever make it to production. This is the "𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲": a chasm between high adoption and low transformation. The report is clear: the bottleneck isn't the technology, it's the strategy. We're confusing activity with progress, and it's stalling real transformation. The 5% of firms successfully crossing this divide are executing a fundamentally different playbook. Here are their three strategic shifts: 1️⃣ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 ➔ 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠: The impulse to build a proprietary tool is tempting, but the data is brutal: internal builds fail twice as often as partnerships. Successful deployments from strategic partnerships hit a 66% success rate, while in-house efforts languish at 33%. Winning firms treat AI not as a one-off purchase, but as a co-developed capability, focusing their internal resources on integration, not reinvention. 2️⃣ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐓𝐨𝐩-𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 ➔ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭-𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Central innovation labs don't have all the answers. The most successful AI initiatives are sourced from frontline managers who understand the workflows intimately. They're also discovering the highest ROI isn't in flashy sales tools but in quiet back-office automation, slashing BPO spend by $2-10M annually and cutting external agency fees by 30%. 3️⃣ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 ➔ 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬: This is the core issue. Most AI pilots stall because the tools are static. Users complain they "don't learn from our feedback" and "can't be customized to our specific workflows". Leaders, however, demand systems that adapt. They view their AI not as a depreciating software license, but as an appreciating asset. As it learns from proprietary data and processes, it becomes a true VRIN resource: valuable, rare, and inimitable: creating a durable competitive moat. The window to build this moat is closing fast. The report's consensus from IT leaders is that key vendor relationships will be locked in over the next 18 months. Soon, the advantage won't come from having an AI, but from the compounding value of a learning system deeply integrated into your core operations. The real prize on the horizon is the "𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗪𝗲𝗯": where these systems autonomously coordinate and create value. The critical question for leaders is no longer "Should we adopt AI?" It is "Are we building a static tool or a learning asset?" 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤: https://shorturl.at/rA2DI #AIStrategy #GenAI #DigitalTransformation #BusinessStrategy #Leadership #Innovation #ROI

#TheHybridCloudImperative: AI without Compromise, a compelling session by RANGANATH SADASIVA , Chief Technology Officer, HPE India, at the #GCCConclave. The message was clear: this is GCC 2.0. A decisive shift from a cost model to a value engine…where digital capabilities, AI, sovereign data clouds, and deep IP creation (patents) matter. The real challenge? Driving business outcomes and decision-making from India, not just delivery. What stood out was the reframing of “hybrid”- not as an architecture choice, but as a conscious operating strategy, led by people, process, and technology, and spanning AI, cloud, and networking as core building blocks. In an AI era where the world has moved in a sine wave, the experience of consuming cloud, from compliance to performance, has fundamentally changed. Keeping pace isn’t trivial. But standing still isn’t an option.

How do you let go of IT's past to build for the future? Hock Tan, president & CEO of Broadcom opened the keynote at #VMwareExplore with two statistics that frame the enterprise cloud discussion: ✅ 92% of enterprises trust private cloud security and compliance ✅ 7 out of 10 organizations have plans to repatriate workloads from public to private clouds The private cloud renaissance is here. The pendulum is swinging back from "cloud-first" to "cloud-smart," with enterprises choosing infrastructure based on actual business outcomes rather than industry hype. Tan identified three core tensions holding back transformation: ✅ Developer Velocity vs. IT Control: How do you enable rapid innovation while maintaining governance? ✅ Speed vs. Security: Can you move fast without compromising protection? ✅ Legacy vs. Modern: How do you transform without abandoning existing investments? Paul Turner demonstrated how VMware Cloud Foundation addresses these friction points. VCF delivers three critical enterprise requirements: ✅ Security: Native zero-trust architecture and compliance controls ✅ Cost: Predictable infrastructure economics without usage surprises ✅ Control: Complete visibility and governance over workloads and data The real validation came from customers. Barclays and Grinnell Mutual shared their transformation journeys with peer testimonials about solving real business problems. Key announcements include Walmart selecting Broadcom for global virtualization, NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs integrated with VCF, VCF 9.0 making AI services standard across deployments, and new agentic AI security capabilities. As someone who works with #CIOs and #CTOs, today's announcements address real challenges keeping technology leaders up at night. You're being asked to innovate while cloud costs spiral unpredictably. Your board expects AI results, but your security team won't approve uncontrolled deployments. The enterprise cloud reset is underway, driven by operational reality and real business outcomes. What are your thoughts on this shift toward private cloud infrastructure? Are you seeing similar patterns in your organization? My take on the OpenAI and Microsoft deal today “thinking in decades, executing in quarters.” Satya Nadella’s line fits this deal aptly here: Microsoft now holds about 27 percent of OpenAI with a stake worth roughly 135B on a valuation near 500B. More importantly, it secures rights to pre AGI IP and access to post AGI models through 2032, stabilising Copilot and Azure roadmaps. AGI status now requires an independent panel. Microsoft’s access to OpenAI research methods sunsets in 2030, but product IP access continues to 2032. Reports point to very large incremental Azure consumption around the $250B mark over the term. Combined with tens of billions in annual AI capex, multi gigawatt capacity adds and 70 plus regions, Microsoft is building the default infra for enterprise AI. Copilot remains $30 per user, but the real uplift comes from E5 security upgrades for the AI governance layer and rising Azure inference. AI has added multiple points to Azure growth, with Fabric a major contributor. The announced November Enterprise Agreement (EA) reset retires legacy volume discount levels just as AI demand scales. Expect ARPU expansion now and ARPA (Average Revenue Per Agent) to emerge as agents built in Copilot Studio become billable alongside seats. Microsoft is no longer betting on a single lab. In house MAI models are moving into production and Claude is now in Copilot Studio and 365 Copilot Researcher. The strategy is multi model, treating models as interchangeable inputs while concentrating value in orchestration, policy, security and integration across Azure and Microsoft 365. What to do at EA renewal? • Model for Copilot and the EA price list reset at the same time. The intent is to push smaller and mid-market enterprises toward CSP. • Plan role based deployment, and factor in Defender, Purview and Entra roadmap items. Architect multi-model governance. • Prepare for agent based licensing as ARPA lands alongside user pricing. Watch 2030 as the milestone/ target for Microsoft AI functional parity. Microsoft traded exclusivity on raw compute to own the application surface and secured seven plus years of model certainty while building for independence. #OpenAI #MicrosoftAI #Copilot #FinOps #Microsoft365 #EnterpriseAI #Codestone
