Scott Nahrgang shared thisThe U.S. Government Just Gave Quantum Computing Something It's Never Had: A Deadline In June President Trump signed two executive orders that reshape how the U.S. government treats quantum technology: one order accelerates quantum computing as critical national infrastructure, the other requires federal agencies to migrate to quantum-resistant encryption by 2030 and 2031. Rick Muller, SVP and Chief Scientist of IonQ Federal, recently wrote about why these orders matter: https://lnkd.in/ektr_9dT. In his view, the EOs validate the work IonQ has been doing for years, and signal that the quantum stakes are about to get a lot bigger. "Quantum is now," Muller writes. "Not because the science is finished, but because decades of investment by government, academia, and industry have built a strong foundation. The public and private sector alike can no longer afford to simply watch quantum's progress; they need strategies to prepare for its opportunities and its implications." "That's the story behind these executive orders. They don't mark the beginning of the quantum era: they acknowledge that it has entered a new phase." Our Optical Communications team just completed another round of deployments for the Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture — dozens more OCTs riding aboard York Space Systems satellites that launched July 16 on a Falcon 9 out of Vandenberg. That's one of the largest operational laser comm payload footprints in low-Earth orbit, and it moves SDA a real step closer to finishing the Tranche 1 Transport Layer constellation. A number like 84 doesn't happen by accident — it's years of industrialization work compounding. Space networking is shifting from RF to optical: higher throughput, lower latency, harder to intercept, and critically — compatible with quantum workflows. That shift needs a backbone that's proven at scale, not just validated in a lab. Proud of our Skyloom Global team that made this possible.

Scott Nahrgang reposted thisScott Nahrgang reposted thisEnterprises spent more on quantum computing in 2025 than governments and research labs combined. The first year this has ever happened. That's the headline number in a new BCG report cited by WSJ on Friday (and co-authored by my colleague Zheng Cui, Ph.D.): $300M in enterprise quantum spend last year, and 62% of the world's largest companies — 275 firms across 11 industries — now run a dedicated quantum program spending at least $1M annually. The reasons vary. Allstate is chasing pricing precision on complex risk calculations; CEO Tom Wilson put the logic plainly: "If it's going to be available, then I need to start thinking about it coming even before I know exactly when it's going to get there." EY bought its own quantum computer outright — "nobody wants to fall behind," in one partner's words. HSBC has shifted most of its quantum team's effort to a defensive posture, migrating cryptography ahead of the day today's encryption breaks: "There is urgency around it, because we've got to do the transition before a cryptographically relevant quantum computer is developed." Enterprises aren't waiting for a firm date on quantum advantage or cryptographically relevant quantum computers before they start migrating — the smart ones are engaging with quantum technology today and, in the case of quantum security, treating the timeline itself as the risk. Quantum isn't just showing up on a slide anymore. It's showing up in this year's budget.

I’m walking away with a full heart and deep sense of gratitude — for the journey, and for the many people who walked part of it with me. To my family, colleagues who became family, friends who showed up when it mattered, and the mentors who saw something in me before I saw it myself — thank you! I’m looking forward to finding new ways to serve as we embark upon a new chapter.

It instantly gained hundreds of users. There’s no marketing here, it was an internal tool people decided to adopt and stay with. That happened for me a couple weeks ago where an IonQer Bas Nijholt shared a project that he had been working on called Mindroom. I've used agentic AI models for the last many months, and they are awesome. I played with OpenClaw (love it) until it got shut down (for good reasons). Nothing for work-related stuff comes close to Mindroom - at least in my experience (and I'm not saying anything bad about OpenClaw here, perhaps it's how integrated Mindroom is to resources here.
