Big thanks to NetDiligence® San Diego for hosting a great discussion on Cyber readiness and response. I enjoyed sharing the stage with Daniel Haier (CIPRIANI & WERNER PC), Anna Sarnek (Terra Security), Oscar Martinez (Velos), and Alanna Dent (Relativity) to discuss one of the most important questions facing the cyber ecosystem: can AI meaningfully help the industry scale in the face of growing cyber risk? A few key takeaways from our conversation: ➡️ AI needs to move beyond the buzzwords. The real question isn't whether a company uses AI – it's whether it delivers measurable improvements in efficiency and accuracy. ➡️ Security's biggest challenge is no longer just budget. The industry has invested heavily in cybersecurity, but there still aren't enough skilled practitioners to meet demand. AI can help address the capacity gap, but human expertise and oversight remain critical. ➡️ Business velocity is outpacing security. Organizations are adopting AI and new technologies faster than security teams, insurers, and underwriters can evaluate and manage the associated risks. ➡️ The threat landscape is evolving. Historically, organizations focused heavily on external threats. Today, AI-powered tools are changing how software is built and used, creating new risks that require a different approach to readiness and response. ➡️ The market will eventually separate AI hype from AI value. We've seen significant investment flow into AI companies, but long-term winners will be those that deliver tangible outcomes – not just AI-driven marketing. At some point, efficiency gains, accuracy improvements, and sustainable business models will matter more than the AI label itself. Cyber risk feels like it's approaching an inflection point. As organizations, insurers, and response providers adapt, the question isn't whether AI will play a role; it's where it can create the most value and where human expertise remains indispensable.
