Stacey Brown, MBA, CAS shared thisLast week, I was honored to receive the Community Revitalization Award from the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce. This award recognizes organizations that create lasting community impact through partnerships, investment, and collaboration. I was also humbled to receive an official citation from the Maryland General Assembly's Montgomery County Legislative District 20 Team in recognition of this award. This recognition is particularly meaningful as it reflects work that transcends me and my business. As Chair of the Lyttonsville Business Group, we have focused on preserving affordable industrial spaces, improving safety, infrastructure, and parking, and building greater awareness and appreciation for the economic engine our industrial community represents. We have done this while fostering respectful and lasting relationships with our residential neighbors. Owning a business has never been just about serving customers for me. It has also been a way to live my values—to be a good steward, invest in the community where I work, and hopefully leave it a little better than I found it. I want to thank Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) for nominating me and for being such a dedicated partner in this effort, especially Cristina Perez and Chris Gillis for their leadership and support. I also extend my gratitude to my co-chair, Jeremy Hinds of Party Warehouse, and to the Coffield Community Center Board for helping build meaningful connections between our business and residential communities. I'm honored to receive this recognition and grateful to be part of a group of people who continue to show up, work together, and invest in making Lyttonsville and Greater Silver Spring stronger.

Stacey Brown, MBA, CAS shared this15 Years, Countless Storms, and One Well-Timed Rainbow... If you live in the DMV, this will hit home. July felt like one long loop of relentless weather—hot, muggy, stormy, and overcast. Nearly every day threatened rain or delivered it. It started to feel like "Groundhog Day" on repeat. I kept wondering, When will this break? When will I finally catch a breath of fresh air and sunshine? Then, halfway through the month—on July 14th, my mother’s 85th birthday—the skies broke open just long enough for a rainbow to appear. A real, full rainbow stretched across the sky after yet another storm. I was so moved, I actually stopped driving and took the photo I’m sharing here. It only lasted a few moments. And then? The stormy, oppressive weather returned for another two weeks. But something changed in me that day. As I reflect on 15 years in business—and in life—that rainbow became a powerful metaphor. Sometimes, we find ourselves in extended seasons of discomfort, uncertainty, or struggle. The pressure builds. The clouds don’t lift. It feels like you’re stuck in something that may never let up. You think, I can’t keep doing this. But if you hold on, something unexpected may appear—not at the end of the storm, but in the middle of it. A sign. A kind word. A moment of clarity. A small breakthrough. Something that reminds you to keep going. The rainbow didn’t signal the end of the weather—it simply reminded me that better is still possible, even when it doesn’t arrive all at once. Over the last 15 years, there have been many storms—personally and professionally. But each time I thought I was at my limit, something would happen: a thank-you note from a client, a meaningful connection, a reminder that what I’m doing matters. That was my rainbow. Whether you're navigating your career, a relationship, your health, or simply trying to get through the week—this story is for you. 🌈 Top 3 Things to Remember 1) The rainbow doesn’t always come at the end. Stacey Brown, MBA, CAS shared thisTurning 15 Again! The first time I turned 15, I was at Mars, Inc.—where I spent 15 years as a Senior IT Project Manager leading regional and global initiatives. It’s where I became a true professional, learned the power of discipline, and sharpened the skills that I still use today. The second time I turned 15… is now. This month, I’m celebrating 15 years in business. We opened our doors in the middle of a recession—with no customers, no leads, and the only name in the CRM was our own. It was hard. It was scary. But it’s where I learned how to hustle, get creative, and make every connection count. Then came COVID-19—a global disruption that forced us all to adapt. I had to pivot quickly, rethink how we served customers, and embrace digital tools to stay connected. That experience reshaped my mindset and my business. We became more agile, more intentional, and more focused. I leaned into technology to strengthen my team and streamline how we operate—ultimately allowing us to serve our customers better than ever before. 15 years is a big milestone, and it’s made me reflect—not just on the fact that we made it, but on what really mattered along the way. When my husband and I started this business, my kids were 9 and 12. Being a first-generation entrepreneur and showing them what it looks like to build something from scratch has been one of my greatest privileges. I’m proud that they’ve seen there’s more than one way to make your own path—and that now they’re starting to carve out their own. I’ve also been blessed with a powerful network. Over the past 15 years, I’ve met some of the smartest, most generous people—people who’ve helped me grow my business and grow as a person. I started out an introvert with barely a network. Today, I stand in community. I've learned what it means to be visible and genuine, and how showing up for others can be one of the greatest joys in business. This journey also taught me how to advocate—not just for myself, but for my community. Getting involved and speaking up on behalf of small businesses hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been a critical part of my growth. I’ve learned that our voices matter—and I’ve committed to making sure they’re heard. Fighting for the resilience of our business community has been an honor. Through this journey, I’ve used my company as a platform to live my values: mentoring young people, offering second chances, hiring those others might overlook, giving back to causes that matter. This, too, has shaped me. It’s made me better. More fulfilled. I wouldn’t change a thing—not even the hardest parts—because they made me who I am. To my customers, team, mentors, friends, family, and community: Thank you. You have been a part of this story. You’ve helped shape it, support it, and believe in it. As a proud member of ISA and the Sign Research Foundation Board, it was a joy to reconnect with familiar faces, make new connections, and personally thank the suppliers who help me do what I do best. One of the highlights was joining the panel, “What I Wish I Knew When I Joined the Sign Industry,” alongside an impressive and diverse group of industry leaders. It was an open, honest exchange of real-world lessons — valuable for both newcomers and veterans — and I was honored to be part of it. A standout moment was leading the session on Project Management Principles for the Sign Industry. When Brad Turpin, Jr. Jr. invited me to develop this course, I pulled from my 15 years managing multi-year global projects at Mars Incorporated and 15 more in signage. I showed how PMI’s (Project Management Institute) framework can be adapted for our industry to drive projects that are on time, on budget, and exceed client expectations. I also shared practical tools and techniques anyone can use — plus a live demo of our internal project management system, thanks to support from team member, Martin Handelman. I also want to shout out the Women Leading the Industry session — packed with powerful takeaways on understanding communication styles and turning differences into strengths. Huge thanks to ISA for creating space to share, grow, and shape the future of our industry. As we close out Black Business Month, it is a time to recognize and celebrate Black entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders who are building businesses, creating opportunities and making a difference in their communities. For me, it is also a time to reflect on my own journey. I have spent more than 40 years in the financial services industry, including 25 years in banking and 16 years in the credit union movement. Today, I have the privilege of serving as President and CEO of Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union. I am proud to be the first African American woman to lead our credit union, but I know that title does not tell the whole story. The real story is the journey that brought me here. It has been a journey of learning, growing, taking chances, making mistakes, building relationships and, at times, having to prove myself twice and sometimes a third time. I have been fortunate to have people who opened doors for me, encouraged me, challenged me and believed in me along the way. I also recognize that I have a responsibility to do the same for others. I am a lifelong Prince George’s County resident, so serving this community is personal for me. This is home. I have seen the strength of our community, but I have also seen the challenges that many families and businesses face. That is one of the reasons our credit union’s mission, “Help the Community Achieve Financial Success,” means so much to me. I believe leadership is about more than having a title or sitting at the head of the table. It is about what you do with the opportunity you have been given. Who are you helping? Who are you encouraging? What doors are you opening for others? What are you doing to make your organization and your community better? As I continue this chapter of my career, I remain focused on four things that are important to me: Growth, Team, Community, and Family and Friends who are like family. I am grateful for the love, support and encouragement I have received throughout my journey and, most of all, for the life I have been blessed to live. This Black Business Month, I celebrate the many Black business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders who are creating opportunities and building something of their own. For me, this month is a reminder to appreciate the journey, the people who have been part of it and the responsibility we have to help create opportunities for those coming behind us. #legacy #opportunity #support

Period! I want someone to learn something they didn’t know yesterday. I want a company to get better because they invested in their people. I want someone new to discover an industry they never knew existed. I see gaps. And apparently, I’m not very good at walking past them. 🤷♀️ So yes, I’m doing A LOT. But I’m not chasing busy. 🚀 Beyond Code and Design: The Power of Emotional Intelligence in Project Management In the world of technology and design, we often focus on tools: the latest framework, powerful design software, or the most efficient agile methodology. However, after completing my Continuing Education Certificate in Leadership from MIU City University Miami, I’ve reaffirmed that project success doesn't just rely on technical skill, but on Emotional Intelligence. Managing design and technology projects (like my recent redesign for Mi Casita Restaurant) requires much more than aesthetic vision; it requires conscious leadership. How I apply Emotional Intelligence in my daily work: Throughout the 45 hours of intensive training, I delved into skills that are now pillars of my workflow: - Intrapersonal Skills and Self-awareness: Staying calm and clear-headed in the face of tight deadlines or unexpected changes in project scope. - Interpersonal Skills and Assertiveness: Essential for communicating technical ideas clearly to clients and collaborators, ensuring everyone is aligned with the project vision. - Quality in Relationships as a Management Tool: Understanding that effective communication is the most powerful management tool for helping teams reach their full potential. This program has provided me with a more solid "Leader's DNA", allowing me to approach technical challenges with a human and strategic vision. I am convinced that when we combine technical excellence with empathy and assertive communication, the results are not just functional—they are transformative.
