Umber Aggarwal liked thisUmber Aggarwal liked thisI’m incredibly excited to share that I’ll be starting at The George Washington University Law School this week! Over the past year, I’ve learned an incredible amount working as a patent agent at Finnegan, across both patent prosecution and litigation. I’m extremely grateful to have the opportunity to continue working at Finnegan while attending GW Law’s Evening Program, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow as a patent professional as I work toward becoming a patent attorney. I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who helped me get here, especially Kathryn Weiland, David Ashley, Nicole Mogul, Chris Johns, Kai Rajan, and Victor M. Palace for taking the time to support my application and write recommendations on my behalf. I’m also very appreciative of the GW Law admissions team, who were so kind, welcoming, and thoughtful throughout the admissions process. Most importantly, I’m grateful to my family for supporting me every step of the way. I’m especially excited to continue following in my dad David Weirich's footsteps toward becoming a patent attorney myself. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and everything my time at GW Law will bring!

Umber Aggarwal liked thisUmber Aggarwal liked thisSix and a half years ago, I made a decision to change careers and leave the DC area for Minnesota, taking an assistant media planning role at Fallon. Moving to a new city is never easy—moving to Minnesota in the winter is even harder—and doing it right before the world shut down made it all the more challenging. But through all of that, I never once felt like it was the wrong decision for my life or my career. This week, I’m saying goodbye to Fallon and to Minnesota. I can’t fully put into words how grateful I am for the people who have been part of my life here. So many of you made sure I never felt alone or out of place in a new city—something that would’ve been easy to feel at times. I'm grateful for it all. There are countless stories I could share, and maybe I will someday. But one that stands out captures my experience at Fallon perfectly. During COVID, I worked on an activation to bring the cast of South Park to a Denver Broncos game—back when the NFL had resumed play without fans in the stadium. In the middle of printing hundreds of cutouts, the vendor’s printer broke down. I was stuck in my Uptown apartment, unable to travel or even explore backup options in person. I called Andy Rhode and told him I had no idea what to do. He could have taken over or reassigned the project—but instead, he challenged me to figure it out because he believed I could. We found a new printer, successfully executed the activation for Comedy Central, and now a plastic Cartman cutout is packed away with my things—ready to follow me into my next chapter. There are too many people both inside and outside the Fallon walls to thank and if I leave you out, please know it is not intentional. This award will support us in better understanding dynamic formulations of game-theoretic models for societal systems, allowing us to develop new insights for averting “tragedies of the commons”. We are also excited for the opportunity to introduce new students to this area of research through educational initiatives. I am sincerely grateful to my mentors, colleagues, and students for always supporting me and giving me the motivation to keep going. Looking forward to the journey ahead.
