We are looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join a consulting organization on a contract basis in Chicago, Illinois. This role is suited for a resourceful HR specialist with relevant experience who can operate across the full employee lifecycle while also handling complex people matters with sound judgment. The ideal candidate brings a balanced background in HR operations and strategic partnership, with confidence supporting managers, addressing employee relations concerns, and helping deliver a strong employee experience in a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities: • Advise managers and employees on workplace matters, including performance concerns, policy interpretation, and employee relations issues. • Lead onboarding activities for new hires and help ensure a smooth and organized start-to-employment experience. • Administer core HR processes and maintain accurate employee records, documentation, and day-to-day human resources support. • Partner with leadership to provide coaching on people management practices, team dynamics, and employee performance discussions. • Support benefits-related activities by assisting employees with questions, coordinating enrollments, and helping resolve issues as needed. • Use HRIS platforms such as Workday to manage employee data, support reporting needs, and promote process accuracy. • Contribute to the execution of HR programs and initiatives that strengthen compliance, consistency, and employee engagement. • Work effectively in a hybrid setting with regular on-site presence in the Chicago office three to four days per week. • Demonstrated experience in a true HR Generalist capacity with exposure to both operational and employee-facing responsibilities. • Strong background handling employee relations matters and supporting performance management processes. • Ability to coach managers with professionalism, discretion, and practical human resources guidance. • Experience with HR administration, including onboarding, recordkeeping, and routine employee support activities. • Knowledge of benefits administration and the ability to assist with related employee inquiries. • Proficiency using HRIS tools, with Workday experience strongly preferred. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an approach well suited to a consulting environment.
