Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinic Medical Director or designated staff physicians, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive primary healthcare services as a member of the healthcare team. Responsibilities include health assessments, diagnosis, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and promoting overall health and wellness. Outpatient primary care experience is preferred.
Work Schedule:
Four (4) 10-hour days per week
No on-call requirements
Duties And Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive health assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests to evaluate patients' conditions.
Diagnose and manage common acute and chronic illnesses, including minor trauma and episodic conditions.
Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with Virginia scope of practice, including detailed instructions for administration.
Administer and recommend vaccinations in accordance with established guidelines.
Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding preventive care, lifestyle modifications, and disease management.
Perform minor procedures and initiate life-saving measures in emergency situations.
Refer patients to appropriate specialists for complex cases requiring advanced care.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records, documenting assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
Educate patients and the community on health maintenance and disease prevention strategies.
Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with clinical best practices.
Demonstrate knowledge of infection control standards and ensure patient and environmental safety.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to support coordinated, team-based care.
Professional Requirements
For Nurse Practitioner (NP): Current and active Virginia Nurse Practitioner license.
For Physician Assistant (PA): Current and active Virginia Physician Assistant license.
Certification by an appropriate national certifying body (e.g., AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA).
Proficiency in diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions across the lifespan.
Strong communication skills and cultural competency.
Current BLS certification required.
Work Environment
Primarily indoors with occasional exposure to biological, mechanical, or chemical hazards.
Regular use of personal protective equipment as needed.
Physical demands include standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
