Summary
The Process Engineer – Automation is a highly hands-on, floor-based role focused on supporting and optimizing automated manufacturing lines across assembly, injection molding, and metal processing operations. This position is approximately 80% production floor support and requires strong real-time troubleshooting capabilities across PLCs, robotics, controls, and automated systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and can quickly diagnose issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions to improve production performance.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation, PLC, robotics, and electrical issues across multiple production lines
- Perform hands-on PLC programming, debugging, and troubleshooting using Siemens STEP 7 and/or TIA Portal
- Analyze machine faults, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Support commissioning, startup, validation, and optimization of new or modified equipment
- Improve uptime, efficiency, and product quality through process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives
- Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control schematics
- Support structured problem-solving efforts including 8D and root cause analysis methodologies
- Develop and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and technical training materials
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality teams
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and IATF 16949 Quality Management System standards
- Support safety, quality, and operational excellence initiatives across the facility
- Perform additional engineering and production support duties as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on automation experience
- 3+ years of experience in automation, process engineering, or manufacturing engineering within a production environment
- Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs (STEP 7 and/or TIA Portal) required, including programming and troubleshooting
- Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment in a live production setting
- Strong experience with industrial robotics; Yaskawa Motoman preferred, other 6-axis robot platforms accepted
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and troubleshoot control systems effectively
- Proven ability to perform on-the-floor debugging, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly hands-on manufacturing environment
