Founded in 2009 as a forum for playful, serious, and radical perspectives on art in society, Hyperallergic combines art world news coverage with insightful commentary to reach an influential audience of over one million readers a month.
Hyperallergic is seeking a full-time Staff Reporter to join our growing team in Brooklyn, NY. The ideal candidate is a rigorous, well-informed observer of the arts who is able to write succinctly for a general audience, has an active social media presence, and can write on a diverse array of topics in different article formats, from thoroughly researched features to discerning analyses of memes and online culture.
The Staff Reporter will be expected to:
Proactively pitch news and analysis daily, sourcing stories from online sources and their personal network
Conduct research and write two articles daily on a tight deadline
Attend and report on off-site events, including protests and other actions
Report on a diverse range of topics, including arts activism, international current events, archaeological discoveries, and more
Help cultivate Hyperallergic's audience on social media and beyond
This position is based out of our Brooklyn, NY office.

Requirements
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in art journalism, ideally with a focus on the visual arts
Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills
Ethical judgment
The ability to work collaboratively on a team, with generosity and a sense of humor
Familiarity or engagement with the local art community
An understanding of Hyperallergic's mission and values
