We are seeking a Front-End Accessibility Remediation Developer to update and fix accessibility issues in existing web applications across multiple state agencies. The position is focused on implementing WCAG 2.1 AA compliance fixes identified during accessibility audits. You will work with JSP-based front ends (Java Server Pages), HTML, CSS, and jQuery codebases.
This is not a testing role — another vendor will perform retesting. Your primary responsibility is to remediate defects and deliver code changes mapped to the audit findings.
Responsibilities
Implement accessibility fixes across JSP templates, HTML, CSS, and jQuery code.
Remediate audit findings such as:
Missing or incorrect labels, headings, and landmarks.
Keyboard navigation traps and focus order issues.
ARIA attributes for interactive components.
Color/contrast adjustments to meet WCAG requirements.
Accessible forms, error messaging, and dynamic UI updates.
Update CSS styles for compliant color contrast and scalable text.
Retrofit legacy UI components (menus, modals, date pickers, tables) with semantic HTML and ARIA patterns.
Document all changes made for retesting and compliance tracking.
Collaborate with project manager and accessibility lead to clarify audit findings and remediation approach.
Resource will be performing service for multiple agencies through a shared-service central team
Qualifications
3+ years front-end development experience.
Strong skills in JSP, HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery.
Proven experience remediating web apps for WCAG 2.1 AA or Section 508 compliance.
Working knowledge of ARIA attributes and accessible UI design patterns.
Ability to interpret accessibility audit reports and translate findings into code fixes.
Familiarity with assistive technologies (ANDI, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, NVDA, screen readers, keyboard-only use, CCA) — not for testing, but to understand how fixes are applied.
Experience with version control (GitHub) and agile workflows.
Experience with IntelliJ/ Eclipse IDE
Nice to Have
Experience remediating accessible PDFs generated from web apps.
Experience with Java/spring/jee
Familiarity with other accessibility tools (Allyant Hub and/or Evinced) for developer self-checks.
Prior work on government or enterprise-scale accessibility projects.
