GM Achieves 100% Renewable Energy in US Facilities

This title was summarized by AI from the post below.

When you operate massive assembly plants, high-tech design centers, and big corporate offices like we do at General Motors, how you power them has a real impact — on our bottom line and on the communities where we live and work. That’s why I’m so excited that in 2025 we achieved a major milestone: we secured enough #renewableenergy to match 100% of our electricity use across all our U.S. facilities, making GM the first U.S. automaker to reach this goal. As we also ensure a 1:1 match for all electricity used by our U.S. operations, we prioritize projects on the same regional grid as our facilities. Globally, we matched 70% of our electricity use with renewables. We’ve been working toward this for a decade, and I’m especially proud that GM is now the first automaker to achieve this 100% renewable energy milestone in our home market. What we’ve learned along the way is that the renewable energy transition is about doing well for our business and doing good for our communities. Renewable energy has helped provide price stability, support a more dependable grid, and reduce reliance on foreign energy imports — all while generating nearly $2 billion in economic impact since 2015 and helping us reduce our operational emissions by 52% since 2018. And, it’s the right thing to do. Big thank you to Rob Threlkeld, Taylor Searcy, Monica Walker, Daniel Jarratt, and all the GM people who helped make this happen. Very exciting and what a win for the team driving a vision and executing a path to success. I would like to thank all of the organizations that also contributed to make this a success from finance, real estate, accounting, legal, and treasury.

WAY TO GO TEAM!!!!! ✨ ☀️ ⚡ #IWorkForGM

Impressive milestone and a strong signal of where large scale operations are heading. What stands out is how this goes beyond sustainability into operational strategy. Energy is no longer just a cost line. It is something that can be structured for stability, resilience, and long term planning. Matching usage on the same regional grid is especially important. That is where real impact shows up, both in reliability and in supporting local infrastructure. In a market where volatility is a constant, locking in predictable inputs like energy can be just as valuable as securing components or capacity.

Reaching 100% renewable energy match across all US facilities while documenting a 52% reduction in operational emissions and nearly $2 billion in economic impact since 2015 is a powerful proof point that the transition is genuinely good business. What stands out is the decade of consistent measurement and reporting behind that story. Getting to a number like that credibly requires the data foundation to be right from the start.

Congratulations to the entire team! It's exciting to see this progress and the continued momentum. A great example of impact for both communities and economic growth.

Strong milestone by General Motors. A clear example of renewables delivering both operational and economic value at scale. Moves like this are what underpin the broader energy transition.

Hitting a 100% match across U.S. facilities reads like steady work on contracts, grid ties, and metering that add up over years. The $2B impact and 52% cut make the progress feel very real.

What a fantastic accomplishment! Kudos to the GM team - great people doing great work 👏 👏
