I recently took on an expanded team, and my ramp-up playbook typically starts with three things: (1) Reading (a lot!) about the work the team does. (2) Listening to customers and stakeholders about what they like + what they want to see more of. (3) Meeting with new team members and partners, including in 1:1s and "office hours." I've had dozens of those new team member / partner chats in the last few weeks. I don't stand much on ceremony - I'm happy to talk about anything - trade stories on where we grew up, life lessons, career advice, hear about a gnarly work challenge, etc. But the people who stand out to me take a few moments to organize their thoughts and... a) share something about themselves b) tell me something they're doing c) tell me something they want to do d) tell me something they're excited about e) ask me for help on something f) ask me a-e:) Have that list ready the next time you meet someone new, personally or professionally!
Love this! Starting a new job in one week and will definitely leverage this list!
Great list Dan! Are you still open for more talks in category 2? 😏
Congratulations Dan on the expanded role, and love these questions - brilliant, human, authentic leadership
This is such a thoughtful approach to ramping up a new team. It clearly demonstrates how leading with empathy is foundational to building strong relationships.
Love this and agree! I learn so much with no-agenda 1:1s when I am meeting new teammates. A question I like to ask is, “what are you most proud of?”
Such a good framework Dan Taylor !!
Congrats Dan and wishing you the very best ahead! I LOVE the approach and how it's based on human connections....and the standout list is well noted :)
Congrats Dan on the expanded scope!
Congrats Dan Taylor 🚀
