The smart home from Demon Seed, a movie from m1974, was utterly incomprehensibly futuristic back then, but is now literally not just a description of modern smart homes PERFECTLY but STILL futuristic. If I made a smart home app, I'd very likely have IoT devices all talking to some central database. So obviously Pub Sub and Big Query, host your app on K8s on Autopilot or App Engine if you're not that big. Cloud Functions grabs IoT from pub sub, feeds into App Engine/BQ. ideally the app would understand the WHOLE home context, not just individual devices in range. Wifi can map your walls and should be able to track my objects in 3D. Zigbee could even understand 3D relationships with 4 sensors in tetrahedral space (no three can be collinear, no four can be coplanar). Can track objects inside a house or asset tags in a facility. AI would be able to understand contexts across devices and rooms without preconfigured presets of "compatible" devices. This lets you sync ALL IoT devices to one centralized source. You may need to buy adapters for third party IoT devices, but a 60W bulb base is a 60W bulb base and can convert for all third party devices at layer 1. That'd be my go to smart home app ig
