Some residents in the Long Beach area were affected by power outages Sunday that continued at the start of a week of extreme heat.
According to SoCal Edison, 22,066 customers were left in the dark at the height of the outage, first reported at around 6:40 p.m. Power had been restored to many residents by Monday morning.

At the same time the outage was reported, nearly two dozen firefighters responded to a vault fire near the intersection of Broadway and Loma in Long Beach, spokesperson Brian Fisk of the Long Beach Fire Department told NBC Los Angeles.
The outage was caused by equipment problems and a crew has been sent to begin working on the outage, according to SoCal Edison.
By 11 p.m. Sunday, power had been restored to about 8,000 customers, leaving 14,057 customers still without power into Monday.
"I’m glad it’s this time of day, rather then when it’s in the 90s heading who knows, how much hotter but yeah if it was early in the day then that’s when it would be unbearable but this is fine, thankful things are fine the power is out but it could be much worse," said Long Beach resident Maribel Morales.
The outages come at the start of a week of extreme heat and possible record high temperatures in Southern California.
