Our MPs to lead us today.
At the Maneaba ni Maungatabu—Kiribati’s national, unicameral parliament—we bring together the voices of our diverse island nation. Comprising 44 elected Members of Parliament and one appointed representative for the Banaban community from Rabi Island, our Parliament represents the democratic will of our people.
Our Role and Foundations
Established following independence on 12 July 1979, the Maneaba ni Maungatabu is the cornerstone of Kiribati’s democratic governance.
Located in Ambo, South Tarawa, our Parliament operates from a modern complex built in the spirit of traditional Kiribati maneabas.
As a unicameral assembly, we legislate, represent, oversee government, and shape the Republic’s future.
Leadership
We are guided by the Speaker, who is elected from outside Parliament by the Members. The current Speaker is Willie Tokataake, elected on 13 September 2024.
Parliamentary leadership also includes the Clerk, who oversees legislative administration and procedure—currently serving is Eni Tekanene.
