Brittani Kollar is the deputy director of MediaWise, Poynterโ€™s digital media literacy project. In this role, she oversees MediaWiseโ€™s global strategic partnerships, programming and operations, working to empower people of all ages to navigate the digital landscape with confidence. Brittaniโ€™s work sits at the intersection of traditional media literacy and the emerging AI landscape. She spearheads collaborations with content creators and influencers to produce engaging social media content focused on AI and media literacy. Additionally, she leads specialized workshops for journalists and content creators on AI transparency, disclosures and implementation. Brittani is also the architect of MediaWiseโ€™s Gamers Against Manipulation Efforts (G.A.M.E.) initiative, a pioneering program that partners with game streamers to combat polarization within the gaming community. Her leadership extends to: Global Strategic Partnerships, collaborating with partners worldwide to execute programs and convening a global network of media literacy experts and stakeholders; Research, collaborating with universities to conduct rigorous studies on media literacy efficacy; international training, training journalists, community leaders and students globally on journalism best practices, media and AI literacy and digital hygiene. Brittani joined the Poynter Institute following a distinguished 13-year career at CNN. She spent seven years on the international affiliate news desk, coordinating daily and breaking news coverage with global partners. Transitioning out of the newsroom in 2014, she managed the CNN Fellowship and CNN Bootcamp, training over 1,000 international journalists and students on ethics, impactful storytelling and reporting standards. A career highlight includes hosting former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter during their 2018 visit to the CNN Center.
