ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (May 29, 2025) – The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the nonprofit Poynter Institute has awarded grants to 23 fact-checking organizations across 20 countries through the BUILD 2025 round of the Global Fact Check Fund. The grants are intended to support fact-checking journalism around the world.

Each grantee will receive $25,000 in unrestricted funding to support operational needs — including staffing, training, equipment and technology — strengthening their ability to correct falsehoods on public interest issues and help audiences become more critical consumers of information.

Organizations eligible for the fund included signatories to the IFCN Code of Principles. Signatory newsrooms voluntarily sign on to the Code of Principles and go through a verification process to prove they meet universal standards of transparency, independence, nonpartisanship and methodology. The fund was also open to other organizations with the endorsement of an IFCN signatory. Awardees included 14 signatories and nine endorsed organizations.

“When we invest in fact-checking, we’re not just investing in individual organizations. We’re strengthening information integrity worldwide,” said IFCN director Angie Drobnic Holan. “Supporting fact-checkers is one of the most impactful investments we can make in accountability, transparency, and public trust.”

Since the Global Fact Check Fund launched in 2023, the IFCN has distributed more than $8.5 million to 174 journalism organizations in 72 countries across its three funding tiers: BUILD, GROW and ENGAGE. A call will be announced later in the year for the GROW tier, with awards of $50,000 for fact-checking projects.
