The Poynter Leadership Academy is our flagship workshop for experienced managers and leaders. During a week often described as overflowing with “Poynter magic,” each participant learns how to engage with their teams more effectively, hone and communicate their strategic vision and steer their organizations toward success. But perhaps more importantly, they form a new community of shared experiences with their cohort and program alumni.

This camaraderie is established through open, candid and often vulnerable conversations, hands-on activities, unstructured time to socialize and providing space and time to form deep connections. Previous attendees have become each other’s personal board of directors and build a network of support, mentorship and guidance.

“Every newsroom, no matter its size, age or mission, is facing many of the same issues, and that there is an extraordinary community to be had by finding your peers and talking a beat to figure out how to move forward.” – 2024 Essential Skills attendee

Each workshop is designed by our faculty to address the industry needs of the moment — and help you develop life-long human-centered skills that will serve you in every stage of your career.

Interactivity and participation are the cornerstones of our teaching style and our faculty members will serve as facilitators for this engaging and transformational week.
