Conversation around office fashion isn’t new—people have been getting dressed for work for, well, forever. Whether you’re a lawyer, an engineer, a journalist, an accountant, or really anything in corporate America, there are certain expectations for what you should be wearing in front of your colleagues. But how has this conversation evolved in 2025? Turns out, office fashion today is all about quality over quantity, falling back on basics, and blurring the lines between typical work clothes and fun going-out clothes.
You heard that right—it is possible to wear that polka-dot babydoll tank you bought for your birthday to the office. As long as you have a waist-length short-sleeve shirt to go underneath, you're good to go. Layering plays a huge role in 2025 office fashion trends, allowing for garments deemed inappropriate on their own to still make an appearance at work. Here are eight other office fashion trends stylists have noticed so far in 2025.
- Natalie Bode, full-time engineer and part-time personal stylist
- Erin Eagle, fashion content creator, stylist, and founder of A Style Set and Setly
Pleated Midi and Maxi Skirts
Dresses aren't the only appropriate option for the office when temperatures rise above 70 degrees. Midi or maxi skirts can be dressed up or down depending on the vibe of your office, and can be paired with almost any tee, button-up, or blouse to create endless outfits. Natalie Bode, full-time corporate engineer and part-time personal stylist, points to pleated skirts as a trend this year. "Midi and maxi skirts, specifically more of a pleated skirt, for sure," she says. "In terms of materials: suede and a more breathable material like linen."
Because pleated skirts are trending in a variety of materials, they can be worn year-round. Bode notes the popular shapes this year are A-line and pencil, taking inspiration from the resurging '90s.
Oversized Blazers with Peplum Silhouettes
Tailored and fitted blazers are out and oversized blazers are in. Now, this isn't necessarily new information, as oversized blazers have been trending for several years. But for 2025, we're talking massive blazers—blazers you stole from your 6'5" dad's closet—massive. And we're cinching them in.
This year, we're seeing oversized blazers with belts or waistcoats, according to Bode. "Peplum-style tops are really coming back—that whole silhouette—and we're seeing that surging in corporate America with belted blazers and even belted tops."
Knee-Length Bermuda Shorts
Another alternative to dresses has entered the chat in 2025, but this trend is slightly more polarizing. We're talking about knee-length Bermuda shorts. For some, shorts are a hard no for an office setting, but we promise the type we're suggesting are of considerable length and appeal.
Erin Eagle, fashion content creator, stylist, and founder of A Style Set and Setly, predicts knee-length Bermuda shorts will stick around for a while. "They're especially perfect for the warmer months and look chic with wide knee-high boots or loafers with high socks," Eagle says. Knee-length jean shorts, or jorts, have also been trending this year, and Eagle thinks Bermuda shorts are the answer to making baggy shorts more office-appropriate.
Plaid
It's not just specific garments and silhouettes that stylists see trending in the office, but patterns as well. Eagle explains the frontrunner pattern this year is plaid. "Pinstripes have been the go-to for the last few years," explains Eagle. "But I do think we're going to be seeing plaid on everything from blazers to trousers to skirts." Plaid is preppy, and Eagle predicts the rest of 2025 will lean into that. Think boat shoes, polo shirts, and—you guessed it—pleated skirts.
Monochrome Fits
Let's say patterns like plaid are way out of your comfort zone and you'd rather stick with neutral classics. Well, fear not. Monochrome fits for the office are trending as well. In fact, they're one of Bode's recent staples when she goes into the office. "It doesn't matter if it's black, white, or red, but matching your top and pants—something about it just makes it look like you spent hours picking out your outfit," says Bode. Her go-to is a black tailored trouser, a black mock neck or sweater, and a chunky black belt.
Pointed-Toe Kitten Heels
So, we know what cool corporate girls are wearing on their bodies, but what are they wearing on their feet? The answer is knee-high boots, loafers, ballet flats, and—most importantly—pointed-toe kitten heels. Nothing screams "office siren" more than a pointed-toe kitten heel, and this '90s and early 2000s business-chic aesthetic seems to be everyone's office goal in 2025. Eagle even has an entire page of "office siren" inspiration, shoppable items, and outfit ideas on her website.
"Pointed-toe kitten heels are an office classic," says Eagle. "They're sleek, work-appropriate, and pair perfectly with really anything." If you're on the hunt for a good pair, Eagle suggests looking at Miista or Alohas.
Extra-Large Totes
Unlike when we go out to dinner with our tiny shoulder bags that only contain three lip glosses and a digital camera, our work bags have to fit several large items. The laptop, water bottle, makeup bag, notebook, and chargers take up a lot of room, so it's a good thing the trending office bag this year is quite sizable.
"The most popular work bag that I'm seeing at the moment is an extra-large leather tote," says Eagle. Some are patent leather, while others are more distressed with silver or gold buckle detailing. If this edgier look is your vibe, Eagle suggests looking at Marge Sherwood. For the more classic, suede vibe, look at Coach.
Chunky Belts
If a plaid-patterned skirt or Bermuda short is slightly too risqué for your place of work, this last 2025 office trend will save you from outfit boredom. Chunky belts—and chunky accessories in general—are huge this year, and they're the perfect way to add personality to your outfit without getting sent to HR. "Accessorizing is how you can turn a 'boring' outfit into something that looks really elevated and high-fashion," says Bode. One of her favorites is the chunky belt. "It brings the attention to your waistline and the center of your outfit, and makes it look super cute."
Everyone's corporate setting has different expectations and guidelines when it comes to proper attire. So, not every 2025 office trend is going to work for you. Bode always incorporates a personality marker in her outfits, regardless of the trends, and she suggests you do the same. "Whether it's a bracelet or a signature makeup look or a chunky belt, add something that makes your outfit feel like you."
