Start of the new parliamentary working year
The Riksdag’s new working year – the 2025/26 Riksdag session – will start on Tuesday 9 September. At 10.30 a.m. the members of the Riksdag will convene for a roll-call in the Chamber. This will be followed by a ceremony for the opening of the Riksdag session. Both events can be followed via the webcast service on the Riksdag website and on social media. Tuesday 9 September also marks the start of the general private members’ motions period.
Protection of critical infrastructure on the agenda at this year’s Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference
The 34th Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) took place in Mariehamn, Åland on 24-26 August. The title of this year’s conference was “The Baltic Sea - Our Lifeline”.

The opening of the Riksdag session will take place on Tuesday 9 September. In connection with the ceremony, there will be a limited number of photo locations available for the media. In order to be allocated a photo location, you need to apply in advance to cover the opening, and you also require media accreditation to the Riksdag.
The Speaker participates in Nordic-Baltic Conference of Speakers in Estonia

Yes to the Government’s spring amending budget 2025
The Riksdag has voted in favour of the Government’s proposals in the spring amending budget concerning changes in state expenditure during 2025. The decision means that the allocated funds will increase by SEK 7.2 billion.

A debate between party leaders will be held at the Riksdag on Wednesday 11 June. During the debate, the leaders of all the parties represented in the Riksdag will have the opportunity to argue in favour of the policies they wish to pursue.
Abuse of payment systems to be combated
The Government has proposed measures to counteract the abuse of payment systems by criminal networks. The Riksdag has voted in favour of the proposal.
The Riksdag this summer
During the summer, there is a break in the meetings of the Chamber, and the members of the Riksdag continue their parliamentary business in their home communities.
Throughout the summer, they also have the opportunity to address written questions to government ministers.

Interpellation debates will take place on 21 August, 26 August and 4 September. The 2025/26 Riksdag session will open on 9 September.

The opening of the Riksdag session 2025
The Riksdag will open again on Tuesday 9 September. The opening marks the start of the new parliamentary working year, the 2025/26 Riksdag session, for both the Riksdag and its 349 members.
The general private members' motions period
Once a year, members of the Riksdag can submit proposals on virtually any issue that the Riksdag can take decisions on. This is known as the general private members' motions period. The 2025 general private members' motions period starts on Tuesday 9 September at 10.30 a.m. and ends on Tuesday 7 October at 4.30 p.m.
