Joseph B. Edlow, Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Experience and Achievements
Joseph B. Edlow was confirmed as the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on July 15, 2025. Prior to this confirmation he served as founder of the Edlow Group LLC and the Law Office of Joseph Edlow LLC. He also served as a visiting fellow at both the Center for Renewing America and The Heritage Foundation.
Edlow has previously served in various leadership roles within USCIS, including deputy director for Policy in 2020 and as chief counsel in 2019.
Before joining USCIS, Edlow served as a deputy assistant attorney general with the Office of Legal Policy at the Department of Justice, where he primarily focused on immigration policy matters. Before that, Edlow worked in the House of Representatives from 2015- 2018, first in the Office of Congressman Raúl R. Labrador and then as counsel on the Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee. In the latter role, Edlow focused on enforcement and criminal immigration matters.
Before working at the House of Representatives, he spent six years with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an assistant chief counsel in the Baltimore Field Office.
Education
Edlow earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
