Few handbags have managed to bridge the gap between aspirational and genuine accessibility quite like the Coach Tabby. Beloved by celebrities and embraced by Gen Z since its launch in 2019, the Tabby has remained relevant through seasonal colours and collaborations, earning a place in the It-bag hall of fame.
Founded in 1941 in New York, Coach began as a family-run, small leather workshop. According to brand lore, its founders were inspired by the soft patina of well-worn baseball mitts, using that supple, glove-tanned leather as the basis for some of their earliest designs – including a collection of relaxed, capacious carryalls that felt markedly different from the prim, boxy top-handle bags dominating the market at the time.

Today the Tabby is easily the brand’s most recognisable and bestselling design. Since its launch, it has become a firm fixture swinging from the shoulders and arm creases of a long list of celebrity devotees, including Emily Ratajkowski, Bella Hadid, Charli XCX and Olivia Rodrigo.
The Tabby family has since expanded into three core sizes, the Tabby 20, Tabby 26 and Tabby 36, with each number referring to the bag’s width.
