Earlier this month, Princess Eugenie and her husband, the businessman Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their third child together. The couple’s first daughter – who joins her two older brothers, five-year-old August Philip Hawke and three-year-old Ernest George Ronnie – was born on 3 August, 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon (the family splits their time between Portugal and the UK). “The baby was born weighing six pounds nine ounces,” read the official announcement. “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”
But now, British Vogue, can exclusively reveal that the newest member of the royal family has a name: Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Adelaide becomes the 15th in line to the throne, behind her two older brothers. “Two weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world,” Princess Eugenie said, “and since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.”
The new addition to the family is “named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her great grandmother, who we hold close in our hearts”, Eugenie continued. “Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home. Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”
While baby Adelaide’s middle name is a nod to her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, her first is a reference to a different royal: Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, who became Queen Consort as the wife of William IV. Adelaide is said to have been beloved by the British public for her piety, modesty and charity. The capital city of South Australia was named for her at its founding in 1836.
Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank married back in October, 2018, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The couple had been together for seven years by then, after being introduced by mutual friends on a ski trip in Switzerland. This October will mark their ninth wedding anniversary.
