If there’s one thing Uniqlo does best, it’s reliable trousers. From their bestselling barrel-leg styles, to jeans from JW Anderson’s longstanding collaboration with the band, many pairs take pride of place in the wardrobes of fashion insiders. My latest obsession? These khaki Uniqlo U cargo pants, which I spotted while browsing the men’s department (a section that should never be overlooked if you’re in store) – and I’ve barely taken them off since.

Cut from a lightweight cotton-nylon blend, these cargos are perfect for your ’90s-coded summer rotation;], featuring an elasticated waistband that makes them suitable for both office days and weekends. My favourite feature? The drawstring hems that allow you to shape these trousers into your preferred silhouette. I opt for a loose tie and a relaxed, perfectly-slouchy look, with a slight turn up to show the ends of the drawstrings for an extra nostalgic nod. And in true cargo form, this pair doesn’t skimp on pockets.
I styled mine with a fluffy jacket and kitten heels during the Fashion Week period, but now the temperatures have risen (slightly), they’ve become even more versatile. Wear with a vintage sweatshirt and trusty ballet flats for relaxed office-ready styling this season, or throw on a lace-trimmed top and heeled sandals for an effortless evening look during the summer months. Wearing them with a tank and flip-flops, meanwhile, makes for the ideal airport outfit. Scroll on for three ways I’ve been wearing my Uniqlo cargos this season.
