Soft Loafers

Supple, glove-like leather from brands like The Row, Miu Miu, and Bottega Veneta makes loafers feel more like decadent slippers—go classic and sleek with Italian craftsmanship or lean into a playful twist with lace-up styles.

Tassel Loafers

Another breakout from the fall 2026 runways, the classic loafer styles received a playful update. Tassel detailing adds a preppy, borrowed-from-your-grandfather touch to the timeless silhouette. Seen at Bottega Veneta to Ulla Johnson, the detail brings a little movement to every step.

Heeled Loafers

A slight lift, whether block-heeled or a little higher, takes a pair of loafers from day to night without sacrificing its grounded sensibility. Find elevated iterations of the classic dress shoe with Proenza’s pointed toe style or Tod’s tassel loafers.

Suede Loafers

Slightly softer and slightly more luxe, suede loafers bring texture and warmth to any fall palette, and complement a wide range of outfits (and personal styles). More delicate than their full-grain counterparts, they break in effortlessly—avoiding the dreaded blister phase—while remaining durable enough to withstand inclement weather (just coat them in a protective spray if you plan to wear them in the rain).

Driving Shoes

The quintessential driving style includes flexible, rubber-pebbled soles built for the pedal, but they’re just as chic off-road with cropped denim or a classic trouser.

Everything You Need to Know About Loafers

How to choose the right size of leather loafers

One practical note before you invest: Leather loafers will stretch and soften with wear, so opting for a snug fit—or half sizes when possible—is wise. If sizing feels slightly off, a discreet insole or heel grip offers an easy fix.

How to break in leather loafers

When trying to break in a pair of stiff leather loafers, I try to work the leather by hand before the first wear and then opt for a sock on the first few outings. Although it is not glamorous, keeping preemptive Band-Aids on hand is not a bad idea either!
