Shannon Scott shared thisWe’re entering the Agentic Banking era. For it to work at scale, a few things need to be true: (1) Agents need the full picture across accounts, entities, balances, and currencies. (2) They need clear rules around what they can do themselves and what needs approval. (3) The financial infrastructure underneath them needs to keep up. An agent making a decision in seconds only gets you so far if moving the money still takes days. All these pieces are coming together, and we’re actively building toward this future at Airwallex. Jack Zhang wrote a great piece about this concept we’ve been talking about internally for a while. If you’re building around this too, I’d love to hear what you’re seeing. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gHXACXBZ

Shannon Scott shared thisToday, we’re launching a new Airwallex Business Accounts experience built around agents. We’ve revamped the product entirely to let you manage all your entities and accounts in one place, with AI agents now being able to work across them within the rules, permissions, and approvals you define. We call it Agentic Business Accounts. This new infrastructure opens up a very different way of running finance, with AgentOS, our toolkit for AI agents, now increasingly capable of provisioning accounts, moving liquidity, managing FX and putting idle cash to work. We believe every company will eventually have agents making financial decisions. We’re building the infrastructure that gives them the context to do that safely. Give it a try and let us know what you'd want us to build next.

Shannon Scott shared thisPretty exciting to see Mandala put hard numbers behind something we’ve believed for a long time: better financial technology can meaningfully change how much time and money businesses have to invest in growth. The research found Australian SMBs using Airwallex reclaim an average 12.4 hours a week on financial tasks, while productivity gains account for $1.4 billion of the direct economic benefits Airwallex supports in Australia each year. There’s a lot of conversation about AI and productivity right now, but I think this is a good example of what that can actually look like in practice. Automation is already taking a lot of repetitive financial admin out of the day-to-day. AI gives us the opportunity to go further, connecting more of those workflows and helping businesses spend less time managing financial operations and more time on higher-value work. For smaller businesses in particular, that’s pretty exciting. Capabilities that once required much larger finance and technology teams are becoming increasingly accessible. There’s still a lot to build, but the productivity opportunity here is huge.

Shannon Scott shared thisA few big updates from the Airwallex team over the past month: (1) We made T:0 generally available. Founders can now get an agentic finance team from day zero. Ask messy questions, run a scenario, or dig into what’s driving your business, and T:0 will pull the numbers together for you. (2) We now offer Affirm as a payment method through Airwallex Payments. Merchants in 35 countries can offer pay-over-time options to eligible US shoppers without adding another integration. (3) If you’re a business in France, you can now issue and receive e-invoices through Airwallex Billing and Airwallex Spend, helping you stay compliant with local e-invoicing mandates. And that’s only part of it. See everything we shipped below.

Shannon Scott shared thisToday, we’re making T:0 generally available. We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what finance software should look like if you built it around agents from the start. With T:0, you connect your financial stack and the work starts happening in the background with agents categorizing transactions, reconciling accounts, and keeping the books up to date every day. So when a founder opens T:0, they can spend their time understanding the business rather than getting the numbers ready. Try it out: https://t0.ai/

Shannon Scott shared thisSo excited to welcome the first Latitude 37 cohort! We selected ten Australian AI companies from hundreds of applications, each receiving $100,000 in equity-free funding, along with access to Airwallex's global network and immersion programs in San Francisco and Singapore. There’s a lot of ambitious AI talent coming out of Australia, and this group is a good example of it. The breadth of ideas we saw through this process, from robotics and aerospace to autonomous systems and financial infrastructure, is a pretty good reminder of how much talent and ambition there is in Australia tackling some really hard problems. Looking forward to spending time with them over the next few months.

Shannon Scott shared thisA few useful updates from the Airwallex team this month to make your life a little easier: (1) Our Fraud Attack Prevention Agent detects card attacks at checkout in real time, automatically blocks suspicious transactions, explains what's happening, and alerts you directly in the WebApp and by email. (2) The Expense Policy Agent can now automatically approve low-risk expenses, helping you spend less time reviewing routine requests. (3) You can now also set different surcharge or discount rates by payment method, card brand, card type, and more, with built-in regional guardrails to help you stay compliant. There’s plenty more in the full release notes, including Wero payments, reusable invoice branding, and QuickBooks Online sync for Billing. See everything we shipped below.

Shannon Scott shared thisThe best infrastructure becomes more valuable as a company grows. Halter started using Airwallex for corporate cards and expenses. As it expanded from New Zealand into Australia and the US, it added Global Accounts, Bill Pay, Yield and Global Entity Management. Instead of adding a new financial system for every new market, Halter has been able to run more of its global operations from one platform. This is what we want to help more ambitious companies do: build locally, expand globally and spend less time managing the complexity in between. Halter is one of the most unique & impressive technology companies I've seen in the last decade. Proud to support Craig Piggott and the entire Halter team on their mission.

Shannon Scott liked thisShannon Scott liked thisI was listening to Diogo Almeida on an a16z podcast talking about the role winning a Kaggle competition played in his journey into AI. It reminded me of one of the things I’m proudest of from building Kaggle: seeing how many people from the community have gone on to shape the current AI wave. Greg Brockman practiced his newly learned deep-learning skills on Kaggle before co-founding OpenAI. Tom Brown used Kaggle projects while teaching himself machine learning. He later became first author of the GPT-3 paper and co-founded Anthropic. François Chollet introduced Keras to Kaggle competitors early on, then hosted the first ARC-AGI competition on Kaggle. ARC-AGI tests whether AI can learn new rules and solve unfamiliar problems from just a few examples. It has become an influential benchmark for frontier AI reasoning. Diogo Almeida went from winning a Kaggle competition to coauthoring InstructGPT and founding TypeSafe AI, the company behind Jev. And I’m especially proud to see Chris Clark, who led product and engineering at Kaggle, go on to co-found OpenRouter. Kaggle played a different part in each of their journeys. It’s pretty remarkable to see what they’ve gone on to build. Who else should be on this list?

Shannon Scott liked thisShannon Scott liked thisI wrote about something we’ve been talking about internally for a while: The Agentic Banking Era. There’s been a lot of attention on agents buying things for people, and rightly so. But I think there’s another really big use case inside companies: agents managing more of the money itself. For that to work well, the agent needs the full context of the business and financial infrastructure it can actually act on. We’re already starting to see pieces of this at Airwallex, so I wanted to put down how I think it plays out from here. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/euR3ZBME

Shannon Scott liked thisShannon Scott liked thisLast week I attended Airwallex SHIFT in Sydney... the first stop in what's going to be a global series (London next, heads up for my UK network). Wisely, the theme was "artificial intelligence and human brilliance" - for me that sets the tone well for what's coming. A big thanks to my former colleague Jennifer Snell for the invite. A few things that stuck with me... Judgment matters more than ever... and AI doesn't take away accountability. James Teodorini, Airwallex's head of ANZ, made the point that a well-crafted three-page doc used to be a signal that real thought had gone into it. Not anymore. Self-serve, without configuring anything. Shannon Scott, their CPO, shared how they built their expense policy agent. No codifying hotel rates and booking windows, you just upload the policy doc as it is and the AI interprets it. His view is the job now is sensible APIs and guardrails, not hand-building every feature - which resonated with me, it's very much the world we live in at Collabra. On my mind is what the front end will be. Some services will run autonomously (core Collabra territory), but an increasing number will be activated through a user's existing interface. Lisa Tsai demoed their agentOS live... connecting Claude straight into the Airwallex account and spinning up cards for three new starters in under two minutes. And it's built on MCP, so it works with whichever AI platform you already use. All good food for thought. And... I like the 'financial infrastructure' positioning Airwallex is taking. In many respects ours is 'automation infrastructure', so great minds and all that. Final thought... Arnold Chan summed it up well imho when he said rethink the workflow, don't just replace the work. Yes. #AirwallexShift

Shannon Scott liked thisShannon Scott liked thisYesterday, I hosted our first PM in the AI Era event, bringing together product managers and aspiring PMs across Singapore. AI is reshaping how we build products and redefining the role of product management. We had insightful conversations about the challenges ahead, challenged assumptions, exchanged perspectives, and explored how our craft needs to evolve. It was inspiring to see so many great minds in one room, and even more rewarding to see new conversations and connections continue well beyond the sessions. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed your experiences, questions, and ideas. A special thank you to our wonderful volunteers Florie Zhu Yipei Huang, whose support behind the scenes made the evening possible. I’m grateful to be building this community alongside so many curious and thoughtful people. There is still much for us to learn, rethink, and build as AI continues to reshape our industry. Vercel's COO Jeanne DeWitt Grosser joins Georgie Healy to unpack what the next era of engineering actually looks like and why founders and operators need to rethink how they build right now, not later. They start with something close to home: Jeanne landing in Sydney for just 48 hours, squeezing in the Bondi to Coogee walk before flying out, and building a product PRD on Claude somewhere over the Pacific. But the conversation quickly moves into much bigger territory. From the real bottlenecks holding back AI agents in production to why 2026 is the year enterprises finally stop talking and start shipping, Jeanne explains how Vercel is building the infrastructure layer that makes all of it possible. They get into what the future of engineering actually looks like, why the best engineers of tomorrow will be defined by vision and taste rather than lines of code, and how a single well orchestrated founder with 20 AI agents could build a unicorn. Jeanne also shares what Stripe taught her about design partnerships, how Vercel is closing the loop between go-to-market and engineering, and why non-technical people are already winning with tools like V0. Plus: the GTM engineer role most companies have not hired yet, why AI ROI frameworks are broken, what she built on Claude on her flight over, and the one sales adage from her Stripe days that every founder needs to hear. 🎧 Link in comments

Matt McFarlane runs FNDN, and he knows compensation in Australian tech and startups better than anyone I know. And you can't have a podcast about Building Tech Teams without talking about compensation. His opening line set the tone: “the number is only half the story.” Most companies, in his experience, have no rationale behind the figure. “Someone’s negotiated for it or they’ve plucked it out of thin air or a mate in the ecosystem has said that this is what the role’s worth.” Three parts I found most interesting: ✅ Why AI salaries actually spiked, and it is not the hype. “Payroll’s always been, in SaaS, the biggest cost”. AWS has been up there as well, but token costs and AI infrastructure are being considered now, too. When the infrastructure bill increases, companies are paying the people who understand it. ✅ Companies are banking the upside. A new hire negotiates above the person already doing the job. Matt’s view is that the incumbent is worth more, not less, because of the context they carry, and that most companies sit on it: “a lot of companies think, oh, let’s just see if we can bank that upside until it becomes an issue. But by that time, the trust’s gone.” ✅ What promotion looks like when the team has agents. He described a CTO who now expects his people to be promoted by building agents that automate the level of the role they are doing. “They’re probably never gonna hire a junior again, which is crazy, and then eventually those, and there’s maybe eight or nine of them, they’ll all just be principal-level roles with a whole bunch of agents under them.” A key line for managers who are promoting AI within their companies: AI usage is not a performance indicator. “I could spin up a loop right now that just spends tokens and would make me look brilliant despite achieving nothing.” His answer is that we will need a way to judge whether what an agent produces is worth more than its token cost, or the cost of hiring someone to do the same thing. The episode is live across Youtube, Apple, and Spotify.

The race for AGI continues and startups across Australia are doing the most to fill the gaps. The only products VC's are batting their eyes at are technologies that replace humans entirely. To them the battle for software is no longer worth looking at due to the enormous risk involved with product redundancy in 1-2 years. As a tech startup founder, it's my job to ensure our product stays relevant as newer, faster and better capabilities roll-out daily. Speed-to-market and market-fit is simply not enough.
