David Ross shared thisI'm so proud that Ross Video is a part of the amazing work they do to entertain the fans in Sofi stadium!! Thanks Josh - awesome photos! David #rossvideo #stadiums #technology #fanengagement #sofistadiumDavid Ross shared thisSunday Night Football at SoFi Stadium did not disappoint — packed house, huge energy, and a Rams win! And behind all that noise? Just about 100 of the most ridiculously talented people you’ll ever meet making the show happen. Two directors calling the shots, two TDs crushing it, 14 camera ops, Replay Row and playback rockstars, our Dash + XPression wizards, audio & video engineers navigating a maze of signals and sounds, lighting, motion design, utilities, and operations keeping it all moving and looking great. Prime-time show. Prime-time crew. Best in the game. #bestcrew #SoFiStadium #broadcast

David Ross shared this34 Consecutive Years of Growth! We did it!! No one wants to break a streak that's been going on since 1992, and I have to thank Team Ross, our business partners, and of course our amazing customers for keeping it going! I have to admit, this has been one heck of a challenging year. Business has been anything but normal, with trade and economic uncertainties impacting every corner of the world. We also delivered some of our most complex systems ever, and I'm proud of how our team rallied to focus on positive customer outcomes. It was a nail biter, but we beat last year's order numbers around 9am on the last day of our financial year. We then proceeded to have an amazing final day and the best month in our 51 year history by a significant margin. What a finish! We closed the year about 3% higher than last year. Not our long-standing average of 15%, but not bad at all considering. Many MANY thanks to everyone who helped make 2025 our Best Year Ever! Onward to 2026 - hopefully our NEXT Best Year Ever! David Ross shared thisRecently my father was awarded a King Charles Coronation Medal. The King Charles III Coronation Medal is awarded "in recognition of outstanding service to the nation or community at the time of His Majesty’s coronation." On top of founding an awesome company named Ross Video, Dad has been busy his entire life contributing to his community. Off the top of my head, he's: - built a unique 2000 foot paved airport runway in town - drained the 250 acre town park with drainage ditches, greatly reducing mosquitos (he drove the backhoe himself!) - volunteered as airport manager for an astounding 50 years - ran the annual fly-in breakfast event for 50 years - contributed towards the town beach changing buildings - designed and rebuilt the (beautiful) campground community building at his own expense - designed and installed the campground wifi system - designed and paid for the lawn bowling club's new lighting systems - designed and managed the creation and paving of extensive walking paths in the town park - designed and managed a beautiful lighting system for the walking paths (at 89!) He's done so much more, these are just a few memorable highlights. Amazingly, Dad didn't just sign a check. He got involved, talked to community members, rounded up volunteers, did architecture and electrical design, and then managed the whole process. Dad's ALL IN. It's just amazing what one person can do for a community. Your new medal looks fantastic beside your Order of Canada Medal Dad! Well earned!! #rossvideo #rosslife #OrderofCanada #KingCharlesCoronationMedal #community #amazingDad

David Ross shared thisRoss Video has been awarded "Top 25 Places to Work in Canada" by LinkedIn!! This one blew my mind! It's one thing to win a national award and be one of thousands, but there were only 25 winners. They ranked the companies as follows: 1. Scotiabank 2. TD Bank 3. Desjardins Bank 4. CIBC Bank (what's with all these banks?) 5. Thermo Fisher Scientific (Our CFO, George Angus used to be President there!) 6. Doane Grant Thorton LLP 7. Autodesk 8. RBC (Royal Bank - another bank!) 9. Oracle 10. BMO (Bank of Montreal) 11. Alphabet (Google, not the soup type). 12. Ciena 13. Ericsson 14. National Bank of Canada (Bank) 15. Ross Video!! ...and then 10 more that apparently weren't as good a place to work as Ross. I mean, if no banks applied, we'd be #8!! ;-) Quite the national honour from LinkedIn! If you can't work at a bank, work at Ross!! 😀 #rossvideo #rosslife #WorkLifeBalance #BestPlaceToWork #Business #Awards #Canada #Hiring #HighTechJobs #NotABankingJobLinkedIn Top Companies 2025: The 25 best workplaces to grow your career in CanadaLinkedIn Top Companies 2025: The 25 best workplaces to grow your career in CanadaLinkedIn News

David Ross shared thisRoss Artimo just won a Red Dot award! This international Product Design award is a major honor for our Camera Motion System and Industrial Design team. Just to be clear - this isn't "just" an award from our industry. It's an award that spans ALL industries and the entire world. It's not easy to win! The really cool thing here is that they didn't just design a pretty chair or laptop, they created an entirely new concept for what a camera motion system robot could be, and they made it stunningly beautiful while meeting a price and functionality target. Well done! When we started this project several years ago, the team was given some strict product requirements, but a free hand on the implementation. I remember walking into the secret and locked "authorized persons only" lab in the early days. There were quite a few early prototypes, each completely different from the others and wildly different than anything on the market. If anyone's into the history of life, it reminded me of the "cambrian explosion" fossil record where multicellular life was trying to figure out what a body plan might look like with lots of early failures and weirdness! In lock step with the engineering efforts, the Ross Industrial design team was also working hard and experimenting to make these mechanical skeletons beautiful, manufacturable, cost effective, and functional. When you get a great team together, give them a clear goal, and give them freedom and time (but not too much time) - you create something magical. And then win a Red Dot award. No wonder Ross is the world leader in camera motion systems. #rossvideo #rosslife #RedDot #IndustrialDesign #Robotics #Broadcast #MechancialEngineering #teamwork #Magical

David Ross liked thisDavid Ross liked thisI have exciting news to share: Rewrite Capital Advisors has acquired the assets of ESOP Builders Inc. I founded ESOP Builders 30 years ago because I believed employee ownership belonged in Canada. We built the foundation and expertise over three decades, building the methodology to make that a reality. Today, that vision is evolving. Rewrite has been one of the leaders on the EOT legislation, and after the acquisition, they become Canada's most comprehensive employee ownership advisory practice - offering Canadian business owners the full spectrum of transition options - whether it’s an ESOP, an EOT, or a hybrid approach. I am thrilled that Joanna Phillips, CHRL is joining Tiara Letourneau and the Rewrite team as Director of their new ESOP Division. She brings the same depth of knowledge and care that has defined our firm from the start, ensuring true continuity for our clients. To the employee ownership community, here’s to the next chapter! David Ross liked thisDavid Ross liked thisNow that we're all back home and the show floor has gone quiet, I've been thinking about what stood out most at NAB 2026. ✨ After dozens of conversations, a few themes came up again and again: • Teams are embracing hybrid production, but they want practical, software-defined roadmaps – incremental steps, not overnight overhauls. • AI is moving from experimentation to real-world deployment – helping with captioning, tagging, and versioning so people can focus on storytelling. • And through it all, reliability remains non-negotiable. When the stakes are high, the tools have to deliver. That's exactly what we talked about in our keynote. If you missed it or want to revisit the moments that mattered most, the full video is now available to stream on-demand. 🎥 Watch the Ross Video Keynote at NAB 2026: https://ross.video/4u3kEl2 #NAB2026 #RossVegas #LiveProduction #BroadcastAV

David Ross reacted on thisDavid Ross reacted on this🦄 Unicorn North is Officially Live! 🇨🇦 We are celebrating Canada’s Tech Builders—from the hardware pioneers of the '90s to the AI and DeepTech leaders of 2026. To understand where we’re going, we had to look at the numbers. And the numbers are wild: 📈 The $2 Trillion Club: We’ve tracked 99 companies since 1990 that have collectively reached an aggregate peak valuation of $2.13 Trillion (CAD). 👻 The Ghost of BNR/Nortel: At its inflation-adjusted peak, Nortel was valued at $768.6 Billion (inflation adjusted). To put that in perspective, that’s more than the peak valuations of Shopify, JDSU, and BlackBerry combined. 💡 The Ottawa Powerhouse: While Toronto and Waterloo get the headlines, 3 of the top 3 highest-valued Canadian tech companies in history were founded or headquartered in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. 🐐 Profiling the "GOATs": We aren't just ranking logos; we’re ranking the architects. Our GOAT Founders list profiles the "Greatest of All Time"—led by Tobias Lütke (Rank #1), alongside legends like Mike Lazaridis, Terry Matthews, and Mark Leonard. 💻 36 Years of Evolution: We’ve chronicled the structural shift from the hardware anchors that built our infrastructure to the software and AI giants scaling today. The Story of Our Ecosystem Canada’s tech success didn’t happen overnight. It was built through cycles of ambition, failure, reinvention, and massive scale. Inspired by frameworks like Luc Lalande (路客) four eras of tech, and works such as Sean Silcoff’s $100-million club at the Globe & Mail, Telecom Tornado by James Bagnall, The Shopify Story by Larry MacDonald, and Lucy Hargreaves and the Build Canada initiative we aim to connect the dots across generations of founders and companies. Why This Matters This isn't just a history lesson. By understanding who built this ecosystem, where they did it, and why they succeeded (or didn't), we can better equip the next generation of founders to break the next $100B barrier. David Ross liked thisHey everyone! I usually just repost the many things happening with our new growth, but this one is special. Many many years ago, I struck up a conversation with David Ross of Ross Video on LinkedIn. Over the years I've worked with lots of folks at the company like Russell Pearson & Jeff Allen trying to see how Purecolo Inc. could help, but other than directing them to connections, we've never been able to work together. Persistence paired with time showed that even if we couldn't work together near term, we did find little ways to get to know each other. Fast forward roughly 8 years, and finally we can call them a client. Thank you to the Ross team for trusting us, we look forward to serving you!David Ross liked thisCarrier Connect Data Solutions Announces Ross Video Agreement at PureColo Subsidiary https://lnkd.in/gYMmzEny

ATSC, The Broadcast Standards… • 4K followers
Well worth the read article from Mark Myslinki on how real-time situational awareness (RTSA) is evolving through technologies like real-time GIS and RF spectrum mapping, enabling organizations in public safety, transportation and defense to integrate diverse data streams and enhance decision-making in complex, dynamic environments. ATSC 3.0 broadcast-standard enables “datacasting” — i.e., the delivery of IP-based data streams via broadcast networks — which means situational-awareness systems can use ATSC 3.0 channels to deliver geolocated real-time sensor, mapping or emergency-alert data efficiently and to many recipients. https://lnkd.in/g8yMFRmY

Does #MXL replace SMPTE ST 2110? NO!! During one IABM Technology & Trends Roadmap working group calls, it was clear that many of us kept hearing incorrectly that MXL (Media eXchange Layer) is a replacement for ST 2110. While at the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) event this week in New York, I asked Felix Poulin from CBC/Radio-Canada and Vincent Trussart from Grass Valley to help clear this up. Thanks to Felix for providing a clear drawing! Help to get this detail out by reposting and sharing with your peer groups. For additional detail, figure 15 of this European Broadcasting Union (EBU) #DMF document shows the difference between streaming and exchange layer https://lnkd.in/eqsgAnxq

Not so super Frank C. seems to never get the facts straight. Let''s take the time to review his latest 'drivel' 🧱 FACT CHECK: Setting the Record Straight on “5G Broadcast vs ATSC 3.0” 1️⃣ “5G Broadcast is advancing globally while ATSC 3.0 struggles.” ❌False. ATSC 3.0 is deployed in more countries and more receiver types than 5G Broadcast. Fact: ATSC 3.0 is on-air across the U.S., South Korea, Jamaica, and Brazil (TV 3.0), with additional trials in Canada, India, Mexico, and multiple European markets. Meanwhile, there are no nationwide 5G Broadcast deployments anywhere—only isolated MNO pilots in Germany, Austria, and China. 2️⃣ “ATSC 3.0 can’t be received on phones.” ❌Completely outdated. Fact: ATSC 3.0 reception is active on feature phones, smartphones, tablets, USB-C dongles, gateways, and TVs from multiple vendors. The ecosystem includes Saankhya/Tejas, MediaTek, SiliconDust, and others—commercial hardware, not prototypes. 3️⃣ “5G Broadcast is the only global standard (3GPP).” ❌ Misleading. Fact: ATSC 3.0 is an ITU-recognized international broadcast standard (BT.2037, BT.1877)—same global recognition level as DVB-T2 or ISDB-T. ATSC 3.0 is also natively IP, fully interoperable with 3GPP systems (that’s the foundation of B2X – Broadcast-to-Everything). 4️⃣ “Release 18 feMBMS is a game-changer.” ❌Hardly. Fact: Release 18 adds incremental improvements—larger guard intervals, extended SFN support, and optional return path—but it remains dependent on operator spectrum and core integration. ATSC 3.0 already exceeds feMBMS throughput, spectral efficiency, and modulation flexibility, operating independently in broadcast bands and enabling one-to-many delivery without network load. 5️⃣ “Brazil will also implement 5G Broadcast to complement TV 3.0.” ❌ Blatantly false. Fact: Brazil’s SBTVD Forum explicitly rejected 5G Broadcast for terrestrial TV services. TV 3.0 is based on ATSC 3.0 physical layer technology. The separate MNO-led study on mobile use cases is not part of TV 3.0 and has no official adoption. 6️⃣ “India is aligning with 5G Broadcast.” ❌ Misrepresented. Fact: India’s D2M (Direct-to-Mobile) initiative is ATSC 3.0-centric, jointly developed by Prasar Bharati, IIT Kanpur, and Saankhya Labs. Government agencies recognize ATSC 3.0 as the technical basis for large-scale D2M deployment. 7️⃣ “ATSC 3.0 is its own worst enemy.” ❌Wrong again. Fact: ATSC 3.0 is the only broadcast system proven to deliver UHD, HDR, datacasting, emergency alerts, and IP services at scale—while converging with telecom and satellite systems in real deployments. The global momentum speaks for itself—ATSC 3.0 is the broadcast foundation for the connected world. 🔧 Bottom Line feMBMS is a network feature. ATSC 3.0 is a full system. ATSC 3.0 delivers broadcast-grade performance today—independent, interoperable, and global. The world isn’t “swimming against the current.” It’s following the current—and that current flows through ATSC 3.0.

My favourite part of this #ibcshow is seeing the same vendors who have insisted software is not as good as dedicated broadcast hardware for the last fifteen years, suddenly out of nowhere become experts in software! At Open Broadcast Systems we have led the software video processing world for over a decade. We have actual experts who understand the fundamentals of video processing. Here is a great example of why we write in C and Assembly.

TWiRT 756 - The Three Layers of Redundancy with Chuck Bullett This Week in Radio Tech dives into how broadcasters can build rock-solid, multi-layered broadcast plants that keep them on the air and their audiences happy, even when equipment fails. Chuck Bullett, Director of Technology at Audacy San Francisco, shares his modular “backup B and C” philosophy—designing independent, mutually exclusive systems that can stand in when a mic arm snaps or a transmitter tower goes down. This episode discusses practical strategies like retaining reliable legacy gear as a parallel safety net while integrating new technology investments. Listeners walk away with a “what-if” mindset and concrete steps to harden their facilities against catastrophic, revenue-draining outages. https://buff.ly/qTcf5aq

🎙️ My Career Reflection: What I Wish I Learned About Broadcasting in College! When I graduated from Humber College/Humber Polytechnic in 2011, the broadcast and AV world looked very different. Back then, tools like: 🔊 Dante (Audinate) 🌐 AV over IP (AVIXA, Cisco, NETGEAR, Crestron Electronics) 🎥 NDI Tools (NDI) 📡 Remote Production (Vizrt, NewTek - now Vizrt) ☁️ Cloud Production …weren’t part of the curriculum. In fact, many of them didn’t even exist yet. Over the years, I’ve had to adapt, self-train, and embrace these technologies to stay ahead in the industry. They’ve become the backbone of modern broadcasting—reshaping how we handle live events, remote workflows, and global collaboration. Here’s what I keep thinking about: 👉 Are Canadian colleges and universities updating their Media Communications, Television Broadcasting, and Radio programs to include these tools? If you’re a program coordinator, instructor, or curriculum lead, I’d love to connect and talk about how we can bridge the gap between what’s taught in classrooms and what’s driving the industry forward. The pace of change in media is relentless. Students deserve to graduate with the skills that employers expect today, not just the ones that were relevant a decade ago. ✨ My career taught me this: in media, the only constant is change — and education needs to keep pace. #BroadcastMedia #AudioVisual #MediaEducation #FutureOfBroadcast #AVoverIP #DanteAudio #NDI #RemoteProduction #CloudProduction #CareerReflection

𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥. After 30+ years in broadcast operations, one truth hits harder than any technology: 𝐔𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 ≠ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭. ──────────────── I’ve seen world-class studios, engineers, and equipment produce content 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝. Not because it was bad, but because nobody thought about 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥, 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞: “Is it ready to air?” 𝐍𝐨𝐰: “Is it ready to be found?” ──────────────── It’s easier to invest in cameras, studios, and systems. It’s harder to invest in understanding your audience. Most organizations choose safety — and slowly, their impact disappears. 𝐔𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 = 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞. If your main platform disappeared tomorrow, could your audience still find you? Or would they move on? 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞. ──────────────── #MediaLeadership #BroadcastIndustry #MediaTransformation #DigitalMedia #ContentStrategy #AudienceFirst

One of the coolest Eq tips recently tried (by Streaky) and I would love to share with fellow producers. Whatever your Eq is on your VO just add this setting as an extra insert. Has to be in stereo or you can put it in a stereo aux of your Vo. +2db Mid Boost between 2,5k-3k and -2db Side cut same frequency. Vo will get extra clarity. #radioproducer #radioimaging

Opinion Piece: Although this perspective may be unpopular, it is an issue that warrants serious consideration. An increasing number of 'Cord Cutters' and 'Cord Nevers' are subscribing to U.S. or foreign streaming providers to access content produced outside of Canada's media support and broadcasting infrastructure. This raises the question of why Canadian media organisations, particularly in the English market focus so heavily on audience metrics within external ecosystems, rather than investing in the reinforcement of domestic systems and support mechanisms. It is evident that a two-tier landscape has emerged: traditional Canadian broadcasters and U.S. streaming platforms. While there is occasional crossover between the two, Canadian content has seldom occupied a dominant position among titles viewed on major streaming platforms. One possible explanation is that U.S. streamers—while participating in a global market—primarily operate under U.S. ownership and interests, resulting in limited incentives to prioritise Canadian programming. Canadian broadcasters have experienced a significant decline in viewers and subscribers over the past two decades. This trend cannot be attributed to a lack of quality Canadian productions, but rather to U.S. content—which many Canadian broadcasters previously relied upon—migrating to U.S.-based streaming services. The longstanding structure of Canadian broadcasting, particularly its reliance on simultaneous substitution (Simsub), has contributed to this vulnerability. Simsub was originally developed for the cable and satellite era, enabling Canadian broadcasters to secure advertising revenue by substituting U.S. feeds with Canadian broadcasts feeds during simultaneous programming. However, as consumers increasingly migrate to streaming platforms where Simsub does not apply, Canadian broadcasters have faced reduced viewership, subscriptions, diminished revenues and influence. The dependence on U.S. programming and Simsub has exposed systemic weaknesses, limiting the ability of Canadian entities to engage audiences or monetise content in a rapidly changing digital environment. Despite this, the sustainability of artificially inflated audience numbers—previously supported by Simsub—remains largely unaddressed. Let’s face it, the broadcast system is at it’s core a tool to sell advertising, but the Canadian system hedged its achievements on inflated numbers to US content. Now since that system can no longer achieve those numbers it is looking for something else to blame rather than recognizing its own value proposition. IMO, this shift highlights the urgent need to re-evaluate existing frameworks and to prioritise investment in original Canadian content capable of thriving across multiple platforms. These views are my own and do not represent those of my employer. I welcome your perspectives in the comments below.
