Twilight Warrior

From DoomWiki.org

Twilight Warrior is a tactical military Doom II total conversion created by Black Shadow Software that requires source port Doom Legacy. The initial November 15, 1998 release hosted on Doomworld was followed by a v1.01 upgrade on December 20, 1998.

Covert Operations, a remake for EDGE, was released by Black Shadow Software in 2000 and it reuses many of the Twilight Warrior resources.

Story[edit]

The WAD places the protagonist in a secret military unit called Global Counter-Terrorist Operations (GCTO). As a "Twilight Warrior" the player is a Special Forces soldier without rank or identity. The WAD includes a file briefing.txt that contains a mission briefing for each of the 10 new levels. Missions include base infiltration/clearance, hostage rescues, and an ordered assassination.

Content[edit]

Levels[edit]

All levels by Sidearm Joe unless otherwise noted.

  • MAP01: Killing Room
  • MAP02: Golden Triangle by Joe Zona
  • MAP03: Denied Area
  • MAP04: Navy SEAL
  • MAP05: Embassy by Justin Madigan
  • MAP06: North Sea Zone
  • MAP07: Counter-Hijack
  • MAP08: Maximum Prejudice by Kurt Kesler
  • MAP09: Immediate Action
  • MAP10: Operation Phoenix by Kurt Kesler

Enemies[edit]

Five of the new enemies are edits of Doom's zombieman sprites to make human foes. The grunts and commando have medium-to-high damage hitscan attacks that force players to turn corners and enter rooms deliberately.

Hostages[edit]

MAP03, MAP05, MAP07, and MAP09 contain friendly hostages that must be rescued from capture. By making use of the Icon of Sin's A_BrainDie code pointer, if any hostage dies in crossfire the level immediately ends and the next level will begin. A similar effect appeared in Sidearm Joe's Hostage Rescue 3 WAD released in January 1998.

Weapons[edit]

The onscreen display of the new weapons are angled, similar to Duke Nukem 3D.

  • Commando knife
  • Browning 9mm pistol
  • OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon) rifle
  • OICW grenade launcher
  • H&K MP5 submachine gun
  • Hand grenades / flashbangs
  • Flamethrower
  • H&K PSG-1 sniper rifle
