CaptionHub is a cloud-based platform for subtitling, transcription, translation, and voice-over localisation. Founded in 2015, it is headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
History
[edit]CaptionHub was founded in 2015 by Tom Bridges as a subtitling prototype at Neon, a London-based visual effects studio.[2] The platform gradually added automated speech recognition, machine translation, and integration with translation management systems.
In 2020, CaptionHub provided translated captions for the virtual NAB Show Express.[3]
In 2023, the company launched CaptionHub Live, a real-time subtitling tool for live streaming events,[4][5][6] and partnered with Lilt and Memsource to support multilingual localisation workflows.[7][8]
In 2024, CaptionHub upgraded its CaptionHub Voiceover platform, adding integration with an AI voice engine from ElevenLabs to support additional languages, and voice cloning.[9]
Features
[edit]CaptionHub's features included automated transcription of speech, machine translation into multiple languages, timing and alignment tools, export in standard subtitle formats (such as SRT and VTT), and synthetic voice-over generation.
CaptionHub Live offers real-time subtitling for live streaming events and supports multiple languages.[5][6] The platform integrates with video players, translation management systems, and localisation tools.[10][11]
The platform also added automated speech recognition, subtitle editing, and integrates with services including Speechmatics,[12] Brightcove[13][14] Amazon Web Services,[15] Phrase, Smartling[16] and RWS.[17][18]
