Add new requests for a new template or updates to existing templates to the bottom of this page. Please be clear about what the template is used for, roughly what it should look like, and which articles it should link to, if any.

For requests regarding stub templates, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals.

A general description and guideline for userboxes can be found at Wikipedia:Userboxes. A detailed instruction to use the userbox template can be found at Template:Userbox. For requests regarding userboxes, go to Wikipedia talk:Userboxes/Ideas.

Template for excessive details

Infobox Philippine Supreme Court case

[edit]

Hello,

I would like to request the creation of a new Wikipedia template: {{Infobox Philippine Supreme Court case}}, modeled after the existing {{Infobox SCOTUS case}}, but tailored for the Philippine legal context.

The purpose of this template is to provide a standardized, comprehensive, and nuanced way to present key details about cases decided by the Supreme Court of the Philippines. While there are currently general law-related infobox templates, they lack certain Philippine-specific fields and formatting, and often do not capture the same level of detail as the U.S. counterpart.

Proposed parameters (based on {{Infobox SCOTUS case}} but with additions):

  • Case name / Full case name
  • Litigants
  • Argue date (oral arguments)
  • Argue year
  • Decide date
  • Decide year
  • Motion for consideration date (if applicable)
  • Citation(s) (Philippine Reports citation, SCRA citation, etc.)
  • Docket number(s)
  • Laws applied (Philippine Constitution provisions, statutes, Republic Acts, etc.)
  • Prior history
  • Subsequent history
  • Holding
  • Majority opinion by
  • Concurrences
  • Dissents
  • Notable quotes / excerpts (optional)
  • Significance (optional, brief)
  • Court membership at time of decision (with Chief Justice and Associate Justices listed)

Check a couple new {{Use X English}} templates

[edit]

Hi! I just created {{Use Caribbean English}} (ie {{UCarE}}) and {{Use Belizean English}} (ie {{UBelE}}), and wanted so see if any template editor might give them a quick look over to see if the code actually does match the documentation for each, pls :)

For {{UCarE}}
this is meant to be the parent template (categorises articles into Use Caribbean English subcategories by date) and is basically just copied from other {{Use X English}} templates, but with two new parameters |spelling= and |country= that I'm unsure of (but which oughtta match behaviour detailed in the Usage and TemplateData sections of template doc, for sure)
For {{UBelE}}
this is meant to just be {{UCarE}} with |country=bz preset, but with any of the parent template's parameters (and parameter aliases) also useable in this template

Here's the requested info from WP:RT lead para or edit notice:

This is a
request for (any needed) updates to existing templates {{UCarE}} and {{UBelE}} (as WP:VPT seemed inappropriate for this tbh)
Templates are used to
track articles written in Caribbean English (for {{UCarE}}) generally, or in Belizean English (for {{UBelE}}) in particular
Templates should look like
both templates have no visible output; both oughtta match their documentation accurately though
Which articles templates should link to
any article written in the appropriate English dialect (but templates were just created so they aren't transcluded from any article yet!)
Related or similar templates
any {{Use X English}} template, except that none of these have |spelling= nor |country= toggles, and none are subtemplates of any parent template (afaik)

[edit]

Hello,

Please could an autoconfirmed editor create Template:Did you know nominations/All You Need Is Death with the following text bookended with two curly brackets:

subst:NewDYKnomination | article = All You Need Is Death | status = new | hook = ... that when a prospective funder described his script for horror film All You Need Is Death as "weird and confusing", director Paul Duane chose to get the phrase tattooed on his arm and fund it himself?

  • Source: Clarke, Donald (April 17, 2024). "Paul Duane: 'I sold one of my vineyards. It gave me a bit of comfort to see Coppola was doing the same thing'". The Irish Times. Retrieved 2025-09-17.

Request for a New Template: Infobox Islamic Prayer (Infobox Salah)

[edit]

I would like to propose the creation of a new infobox template specifically for Islamic prayers, tentatively named Infobox Islamic Prayer or Infobox Salah. This template would be extremely useful for the many Wikipedia articles related to Islamic prayers, including:

Currently, there is no dedicated infobox that caters to the unique characteristics of Islamic prayers. A standardized template would improve consistency, accessibility, and the presentation of detailed information across all related articles.

Suggested Parameters

[edit]

General Parameters

[edit]
  • name: Common English name of the prayer
  • native_name: Arabic or local script
  • meaning: Literal or religious meaning of the prayer's name
  • image: Representative image (optional)
  • image_caption: Caption for the image
  • description: Brief explanation or significance of the prayer

Islamic Prayer-Specific Parameters

[edit]
  • type: Obligatory (Fard), recommended (Sunnah prayer), voluntary (Nafl), etc.
  • sub_type: Fard ‘Ayn, Fard Kifayah, Sunnah Mu’akkadah, Sunnah Ghair Mu’akkadah, Nafl, etc.
  • rakaah_units: Number of Rak'a (units)
  • sunnah_units_before: Number of recommended rak'as before the main prayer
  • sunnah_units_after: Number of recommended rak'as after the main prayer
  • occurrence/occasion: When the prayer is performed (daily, special occasion, festival, event)
  • time_of_day: Specific time window (e.g., Fajr: dawn, Duha: mid-morning)
  • start_time: Earliest permissible time
  • end_time: Latest permissible time
  • loud_or_silent: Whether the recitation is aloud or silent
  • congregational_status: Whether it can be prayed in congregation or individually
  • preferred_place: Ideal location for prayer (e.g., mosque, musalla, home)
  • number_of_takbirs: Especially for prayers like Eid, Janazah, or special voluntary prayers
  • number_of_ruku: Special prayers like eclipse prayer, sign prayer
  • khutbah_required: Whether a sermon is delivered, and if so, whether before or after the prayer
  • unique_elements: Any distinguishing features of the prayer (e.g., extra takbirs in Eid, extra rukus in eclipse prayer, 5 rukus in sign prayer)
  • reason_for_special_prayer: Purpose or cause for the prayer (e.g., Istisqa for rain, Janazah for funeral)

Additional Notes

[edit]

This infobox should be flexible enough to accommodate both regular daily prayers and rare or voluntary prayers with unique characteristics. It would standardize the presentation of key details such as timing, rak'as, special elements, and ritual specifics, which are currently scattered or inconsistently presented across different articles.

If creating a new template is not possible, these parameters could be added to any existing infobox intended for religious practices. However, due to the unique requirements of Islamic prayers—including their number of rak'as, variations across schools of thought, congregation rules, timing windows, and unique elements—a separate, dedicated infobox is strongly recommended.
