Wikivoyage:Temporary account IP viewer

From Wikivoyage

Temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) allows for the ability to view IP accounts of temporary accounts. Those with the appropriate permissions will be able to view so by opting in via Special:Preferences. Use of the tool is logged at Special:Log/checkuser-temporary-account and is only viewable by checkusers, ombuds and stewards.

By default, admins are able to view IPs of temporary accounts without the need for TAIV. Global sysops, global rollbackers, checkusers and oversighters (of any wiki), as well as stewards, have access to this feature globally.

Requirements

[edit]

The WMF requirements can be found at wmf:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy. As of November 2025, TAIV can only be granted if a user:

Stewards are able to make exceptions to any of the criteria above.

In addition, there are the following local recommendations:

  • users must hold either autopatroller, patroller or template editor perms (all of these can be granted on-request);
  • have no active local blocks.

These aren't required, but a request has a higher chance of being approved under these circumstances. If you are unsure, but think you may have a valid use-case, still consider requesting, even if you don't fit the following local recommendations.

Admins may also reject access even if someone fulfills the criteria above on the basis that a user is unsuitable for the role, whether it be due to past conduct or lack of trust.
