[edit]From Malay monyet, from Javanese ꦩꦺꦴꦚꦺꦠ꧀ (monyèt, “a kind of monkey”), likely from a nasalized variant of Old Javanese busyat, boset, buset (“a kind of monkey”). Doublet of buset (“damn”).
