1.48 million resignations in Spain in six months, and 77% from permanent contracts. That’s not a mood swing; it’s a signal that “permanent” often doesn’t feel permanent anymore 📉. At the same time, vacancies hit record levels even with high unemployment. A paradox that points to a gap between what jobs promise and what people actually experience at work. Post‑reform, many “new permanents” look a lot like the old temporary reality: seasonality, unpredictability, limited growth… and people are voting with their feet. Early 2025 data shows resignations still rising, so this isn’t a short‑term adjustment. What actually keeps people? Predictability, fairness, development, manager quality, flexibility, and well‑being. - Because contract status ≠ stability ⚖️. 💰 Latest Investment News in Healthcare & Life Sciences 🧬 Miura Partners has invested in Saesco Medical, a Barcelona-based distributor of medical devices for minimally invasive surgery, to support its international growth and consolidation strategy. The deal includes the acquisition of Cardiolink, strengthening Saesco’s presence in Spain and Portugal and expanding its therapeutic offering. Azafaros, a clinical-stage biotech developing therapies for rare lysosomal storage disorders, has raised an oversubscribed €132M Series B. The round was led by Paris-based VC Jeito Capital, co-led by Forbion Growth, with participation from Seroba, Pictet Group, and existing investors including Forbion Ventures, Schroders Capital, and BioGeneration Ventures (BGV). The funding will support Phase 3 trials of nizubaglustat for NPC and GM1/GM2 gangliosidoses and fuel pipeline expansion. Charterhouse Capital Partners has brought in Peugeot Invest and Hayfin Capital as minority investors in Novétude Group, a new European healthcare education platform built around Novétude Santé. Charterhouse, which remains the majority owner, aims to scale Novétude into a European leader in healthcare higher education, capitalizing on growing demand driven by aging populations and rising private enrollment across Europe. Metric Capital Partners has closed its fifth fund, MCP V, at €1bn, attracting a global mix of institutional investors. OR’s current management remains onboard, aiming to scale globally through a targeted buy-and-build strategy. The Riverside Company has expanded its portfolio company BioDue by acquiring Biokosmes in Italy and Rolf Kullgren in Sweden. The €62M deal strengthens BioDue's position as a full-service CDMO, adding manufacturing sites and expanding its capabilities in medical devices and cosmetics, complementing its existing focus on food supplements. Bain Capital is reportedly seeking to acquire a majority stake in PCI Pharma Services for US$10bn, according to Bloomberg. The US-based CDMO, backed by Kohlberg, Mubadala Investment Company, and Partners Group, has been focused on expanding its capabilities and geographies through both organic growth and acquisitions, including its recent acquisition of Ajinomoto Althea. The Spanish Venture Capital Market Keeps Maturing Spain’s VC industry continues to grow — not just in size, but in maturity. According to Miguel Recondo’s 2024 Annual Report (INCARI), the market now counts 193 active managers (+6% YoY) and 1,163 registered vehicles (+8%), managing a record €43.1 billion in assets — a 10% increase over the previous year. This growth is even more notable considering the global macro backdrop: higher rates, slower exits, and dry powder at historic highs. Spain’s hybrid model — combining institutional, regional, and public capital (CDTI, ICO/AXIS, ENISA, COFIDES) — is proving resilient, enabling the ecosystem to keep funding innovation while other European markets tighten.
