Tom Henriksson jakoi tämänMy excitement has been growing the last few weeks: an OpenOcean portfolio company just rewrote the rulebook for what a European deep tech IPO is! In July, IQM Quantum Computers listed on Nasdaq New York and Nasdaq Helsinki, on back-to-back days - the first European quantum company to go public, and only the third Finnish company ever to pull off a dual listing. The bigger story isn't the SPAC structure. It is that IQMX proved you don't have to relocate to Delaware or the Bay Area to access serious US capital. It built a best of breed superconducting quantum system, recruited world-class talent across 12 international sites with the engineering core in Europe, built category leading commercial traction , and only then chose to list in the US without moving it's center of gravity there. For European founders, the lesson is: build the syndicate and the business before you need the listing, so going public is a choice made from strength. Turns out you actually can be in two places at once. Take note, Schrödinger's cat. Link to the full story and breakdown in the comments 👇

Tom Henriksson jakoi tämänOne month ago, IQM Quantum Computers went public. Yesterday, they got to ring the bell in person at Nasdaq. 🔔🎉 The IQM team yesterday rang the bell at Nasdaq's Times Square MarketSite, the in-person celebration of a milestone that's been a month in the making: IQM becoming the first European quantum computing company to list on a major U.S. exchange on July 2nd. OpenOcean has had the privilege of backing IQM since the seed round in 2019, watching them grow from an Espoo-born quantum computing developer into a public company with the most sold and deployed systems globally, and significant revenue to show for it. That is rare in this industry, and it's a testament to a brilliant founding team: Jan Goetz, Juha Vartiainen, Mikko Möttönen, you were always built for the long game rather than the headline. Spending time with the team, getting a glimpse into how the future is being built, and seeing IQM go from the lab to Nasdaq, is exactly why I do this job. Congratulations to the entire IQM team. Here's to the next chapter, this is just the beginning! #IQM #QuantumComputing #Nasdaq #DeepTech #OpenOcean

Tom Henriksson julkaisi tämänToday is a very big day for IQM Quantum Computers !! In late 2018 we sat down with the IQM founders, who had come out of Aalto University - with a plan to build superconducting quantum computers in Finland. We were a software and data investor, so backing a super deep tech hardware company took internal debate and an exception decision from our investor advisory committee. We joined IQM's seed round in summer 2019. Seven years on, today, IQM is listing on Nasdaq US (and Helsinki tomorrow) as IQMX, the first European quantum company to go public! Along the way it has sold 23 quantum systems, the most by anyone, opened its own chip fab and assembly line in Espoo, Finland, and installed machines around the world from Germany to Japan and the US. I have had the absolute pleasure to follow progress, and interview CEO Jan Goetz on European stages many times seeing closely how the IQM story has compounded every single year. It is a very special journey by the founders, including also Juha Vartiainen and Mikko Möttönen. We could not be prouder of the brilliant and international IQM team behind this achievement; going from the Science Labs to the Global Capital Markets in less than 7 years!

Tom Henriksson jakoi tämänThis is so much needed. One of the hottest new products in the enterprise space! Well done Jorge Torres Adam Carrigan and everyone around the table 😍Tom Henriksson jakoi tämänWhy the world needs an open-source Claude https://lnkd.in/eVeUMPFh AI should be something you own, not just something you rent. You should be able to inspect it, understand it, customize it, fork it, improve it, and truly make it your own. We’ve entered a world where AI doesn’t just answer questions anymore. It gets things done. It builds websites. Apps. Dashboards. Reports. It automates repetitive work. It researches. It plans. And increasingly, it becomes a real coworker. That kind of power should belong to everyone. Imagine if operating systems, browsers, or databases had evolved with only closed systems. We wouldn’t have the internet we know today. AI needs world-class open alternatives. That’s why we’ve been busy building Mindshub Cowork. A high quality, open-source AI coworker you can truly make your own. Good enough wasn’t an option. Inspect it. Modify it. Extend it. Fork it. Make it uniquely yours. Call it Claudio if you want ;) Choose any model, open or proprietary. Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänI'm thrilled to share I'm becoming Partner at Founderful. Thank you, Alex, Lukas, and Pascal for your trust. For seeing the Swiss deep tech opportunity early, for assembling such a special crew, and for building something I'm genuinely proud to be part of. I couldn't be more excited to keep building Founderful with you. To every founder who let me into their journey: thank you. It's the greatest joy to support you building, leading, and winning. We're just getting started. Switzerland is home to some of the most exciting companies being built right now. ETH Zurich and EPFL produce more venture-backed spinouts than any university cluster in Europe, from AI, robotics, and space to energy, chip design, quantum, and industrial tech. I'm excited to support many more founders in turning world-class technical breakthroughs into enduring companies. Alex, Edo, Emily, Gabriel, Joshua, Lukas, Michaela, Pascal, Sila: thank you for being such a great team to build with.Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänWhen we started Founderful back in 2019, we set out to build the kind of investor we would have loved to work with in our own companies. A firm run by people who have been in the founder shoes, who've led early-stage startups to become successful businesses. Antonia, on our team embodies this like few others: she's founded Careship, raised from tier-1 VCs, hired 100+ people, and learned what it really takes to build and lead a company through every stage. This full-circle entrepreneurial journey crafts kind, empathetic investors laser-focused on what drives startup success: hiring well and upping your pace of execution. Antonia has seen it, done it, and by now invested in more than a dozen Swiss tech companies at pre-seed stage. Today she's leveling up and becoming Partner at Founderful. Congratulations, Antonia, we're so proud and glad to have you on our team - together we'll shape the next decades of tech companies built from Switzerland!

Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänTom Henriksson reagoi tähänYesterday, we received the physical copy of our CE certificate! It’s truly an amazing feeling to finally hold it in our hands. This marks a huge milestone for us. The Shen SDK is now CE-certified as a Class IIa medical device under MDR, covering blood pressure, heart rate, heart rate variability, and breathing rate. Special thanks to our team Przemek Jaworski Anna Szopa Tymoteusz Okupnik Agata Gajec for the incredibly hard and dedicated work behind this, and to TÜV Rheinland Medical Devices as the Notified Body that certified every part of the process and officially handed it over to us yesterday. But... stay tuned, as we are already building what's next. That same day, we hosted a webinar on what this certification actually changes: how a face scan measures blood pressure, heart rate, and HRV, how the technology works, how to use it, and where it fits into a remote care workflow. If you are evaluating vitals capture for telehealth, insurance, or RPM, that one hour will save you a lot of calls. Link to the recording in the comments!

Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänTom Henriksson reagoi tähänHonoured to receive the Espoo Medal together with Mikko Möttönen and Jan Goetz. The medal is awarded in recognition of work done for the benefit of Espoon kaupunki - Esbo stad - City of Espoo, and we received it for IQM Quantum Computers’ success and contribution to the city. The medals were presented by mayor Kai Mykkänen and chair of the city counsil Jarno Limnell. Jan unfortunately could not join the ceremony in person. IQM was founded in 2018 in Espoo, which today has a vibrant and growing quantum start-up scene. It has been exciting to see IQM grow from a local deep-tech start-up into a global quantum computing company while keeping Espoo at the heart of our operations. A great recognition for the whole IQM journey and for everyone who has been part of it.

Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänTom Henriksson reagoi tähänMy book is out today: The Work That Remains — Human Judgment, AI, and the Architecture of the Next Enterprise. I wrote it because most of what executives hear about AI comes from one of two rooms — one in panic, one in euphoria. Neither helps you decide anything. What enterprises need is a pragmatic account of where AI is genuinely strong, where it is structurally limited, and a deployment model that follows from both. That is what this book tries to be. My bias, declared up front: I run an automation company, and the conclusion is convenient for companies like mine. Do not take the argument on my authority — and do not dismiss it for the same reason. If you leave with one argument, take this one. AI genuinely embodies characteristics of human intelligence — it reasons, plans, drafts, explains. But it lacks the one thing every employee you ever hired does naturally: it does not learn on the job. A new hire arrives knowing nothing about your company and becomes valuable by absorbing everything nobody ever wrote down. The model arrives brilliant — and shows up exactly as new every morning. The entire method in this book is built around that limitation. I wrote it with Claude and ChatGPT, and the last chapter explains how. I learned more about AI writing this book than in any year of running an AI company. I think every reader will leave with something that changes how they deploy it. Tom Henriksson reagoi tähänTom Henriksson reagoi tähänI’m happy to share that I've started at Mobla AI as GTM Director — and my new job is, in a way, to make people like me redundant. For the last 25 years I've lived inside Go-to-Market: hundreds of GTM plans built, thousands of hours spent getting them off the ground. Now I'm taking everything I've learned and building it into a self-learning, AI-boosted software — so the heavy lifting of GTM planning and execution gets done by the platform, not by another expensive consultant. That's not about cutting people out. It's about freeing up commercially-minded B2B leaders to spend their time where humans still win: setting direction, meeting customers, reading the results — and trimming the sails when the market shifts. Our main customers are startups and SMI’s. I will continue in my current role as Jobla AI part time. Feel free to follow Mobla AI to stay tuned to what we are up to: https://lnkd.in/dzAtZvwh

Software Factory Last week, Google introduced the Gemini 3 Deep Think model and released its benchmark results late Thursday evening Finnish time. It is worth noting that the model is still operating in research mode and builds on previously developed architectures. Even so, it delivered exceptional performance across multiple benchmarks while using significantly less energy. New announcements are coming on a weekly basis. In many ways, this is a natural progression as the world’s leading technology companies compete to build more efficient and capable models. However, the results of Gemini 3 Deep Think prompted a more practical question: what happens when models like this move into full production use? How will they reshape our organizations and the way we operate? This line of thinking led me to reflect on a concept that has gained traction recently: the “software factory.” Within our team, we maintain an active dialogue around AI development. People are continuously experimenting with new tools, and I see it as essential that we leverage the experience of our current team when exploring how to apply emerging technologies. At the same time, we must remain open to rethinking processes and established ways of working. For a software company, the accelerating pace of tooling innovation challenges traditional development processes. They need to be redesigned. One clear observation is that seamless integration between tools is critical. At the same time, we must ensure that advancements in models consistently accelerate our work rather than slow it down. This leads toward an operating model where key areas of software development are supported by agents that continuously leverage improving models. When executed well, development becomes not only faster but also higher in quality. What does this mean for recruitment and talent? The focus shifts even more toward experienced full-stack architects and product builders. Modern tools can quickly elevate the productivity of junior developers, but the ability to critically assess where tools or agents fall short requires deeper experience. When the bar is set high and the team consists of top-tier professionals, it creates a virtuous cycle that attracts more exceptional talent. At the same time, the importance of people at the customer interface only increases. We must deeply understand our customers’ processes, operational challenges, and real-world constraints. This understanding enables us to define stronger product specifications, and with AI-assisted workflows, execute against them faster than ever. The pace is already intense. Companies are well advised to focus on their core operations and increasingly rely on SaaS-based solutions to run mission-critical functions. Based on what I see that is the most effective way to ensure continuous access to the industry’s evolving best practices.

External investors continue to play a meaningful role in the New Nordics 📈 In 2025, investors from outside the New Nordics participated in ~41% of all rounds, with non-European investors participating in ~10%. This is a -11% and -3% YoY development respectively, indicating a smaller pullback of external interest in New Nordic rounds. Still, global participation remains meaningful, as New Nordic startups continue to attract leading international investors. Two Nordic seed rounds, five days apart. Different sizes, identical Monday morning. 20 August: Velatir, an Odense AI infrastructure company, announced €5 million. Co-led by Spintop Ventures and Ugly Duckling Ventures, with Norrsken Evolve and a matching loan from EIFO, Denmark's export and investment fund. The round closed in two weeks. Yesterday: Stockholm's eComID announced $17 million (€14.58m), led by Systemiq Capital, with Regeneration.VC, Stadium and returning CapitalT. H&M Group Ventures has backed them since the pre-seed. 17 people, 60+ brands, 20 million shoppers a month. Both labelled seed. One is nearly three times the other. Hungary's BOOKR Kids closed a €6.1m Series A the same morning — smaller than eComID's seed. The label tells you little. If either were starting with us on Monday, here is the actual first 90 days. Week 1 — close the books through the raise date and reconcile the new cash. For Velatir that means separating equity from the EIFO matching loan. It is debt, it carries drawdown and reporting conditions, and it does not belong on the same line as the round. For eComID it means settling the functional-currency question once, in writing — SEK books, a round quoted in dollars and euros — before the first consolidated month. Weeks 2-4 — build the board reporting cadence while the cap table is still fresh. Both now have strategic investors at the table: H&M Group Ventures at eComID, and Stadium, which is an investor and an existing customer. Related-party revenue needs a stated policy on day one, not at first audit. Month 2 — install the rolling forecast. Both said the money funds European expansion and hiring. Cross-border hiring is where plan and cash stop agreeing: employer registrations, payroll timing and entity setup run a quarter behind the offer letters. Month 3 — the first board pack independently reviewed before it reaches the board. That last one is the point: close quality, not close speed. eComID already holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2. They pay an independent auditor to test those controls over time, because customers asked. Almost nobody applies that standard to their own numbers at seed. Books closed fast that nobody has challenged are not books you can defend. Finance Kernel™ is built for that gap. The mechanism we name for it is the independent CFO narrative — numbers explained by someone accountable for them and independent of whoever produced them, before the board reads them. And the part that matters more than any report: finance in the room while the decision is still open. Which entity, which currency, which month, which hire. Not a variance explained six weeks later. Just closed, first board meeting already in the diary? Fit Check. 45 minutes, no deck. https://lnkd.in/gBCnSqkQ #SeedFunding #SeriesA #StartupFinance #FounderJourney #FractionalCFO #BoardReporting #FinanceKernel #VentureCapital #NordicTech #ScaleUp #FinancialControls #AIStartups
