We're heading into the night to learn about the things we can't normally see. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind hike on the Huckleberry Loop Trail, where we will discover the extinct species that once called our state home. As we hike farther along the trail, we will go farther back in time, until we are in the Late Cretaceous Period and walking among the dinosaurs! Bring your curiosity and comfortable hiking shoes, as this trail is a mix of walking uphill/downhill for close to a mile.

3rd Annual Apalachee Strong Remembrance Hike

Join community members for a peaceful 7-mile remembrance hike around the lake as we honor our neighbors and reflect together. We will gather at the Visitor Center at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 5th, to trek the full Yellow Trail loop, taking in the serene forest and water views over approximately three hours. This guided walk is free, open to all ages, and requires no pre-registration. Please wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring plenty of water for the trail. While the program itself is completely free, a standard $10 daily park parking pass is required for all vehicles.

Remember the Fallen Stair Climb

In remembrance of each of the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11, we will be hosting a free stair climb challenge. On 9/11/2001, firefighters climbed 110 stories of the World Trade Center, equivalent to roughly 2200 stairs. Participants in the challenge will hike the 1099 stairs twice, equalling roughly 2200 stairs, any time from 7am to 11am. A memento will be given to each person who completes the challenge.

Fall Flyway Festival - Birding at Skidaway Island State Park

Celebrate Birds Georgia's Fall Flyway Festival and the launch of our Georgia Birding Trail with this coastal walk through Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah, GA! Join representatives from Birds Georgia and Skidaway Island State Park for this guided birding walk along the Sandpiper Trail, approximately one mile total, spanning salt marsh, tidal creeks, and maritime forest habitat. Birds that we often see on this trail include a variety of woodpeckers (pileated, downy, red-bellied, red-headed, and the occasional northern flicker), brown-headed and white-breasted nuthatches, ruby-crowned kinglets, blue-gray gnatcatchers, eastern bluebirds, titmice, mourning doves, Carolina wrens, cardinals, and blue jays. Painted buntings will have already begun migrating south in September, although we may see some lingering females. Along the tidal creeks, we frequently see herons (green, great blue, little blue) and egrets (snowy and great). We often hear but rarely see clapper rails. Flying overhead, we may expect to see ospreys, turkey or black vultures, and occasionally we will observe white ibises, bald eagles, wood storks, and roseate spoonbills. Trick or Treat around the campground! Start at the Trading Post for a scavenger hunt while you trick or treat to earn some extra goodies. Areas 1, 2, 3, & 5 are included in trick-or-treating. Come out and decorate your vehicle for Halloween and hand out candy to Boys and Ghouls as they walk from car to car. There will be hayrides and other activities as well! Prizes will be awarded to best costumes, best pet costume, and best vehicle decoration. If you decorate your vehicle and hand out candy the parking fee will be waived
Halloween at HLC

Come camp with us on the spookiest of nights! Kids will collect candy from RV to RV. Campers are encouraged to decorate their sites and compete for the prize of most festive set up. Tour around the park on our decorated conestoga wagon. At night, play put putt on our glow in the dark mini golf. 4 - 6 pm: Wagon rides, every 20 minutes, across from the putt putt. 6 - 7 pm: Trick or Treat, main campground. 7 - 8:30 pm: Glow in the Dark Mini Golf ($5/person, CASH ONLY). 8 pm: Campsite decorating contest ends. If you want to participate in the trick or treat, please register at the park office when you check in. You will get a sticker to display at your site. Children must be supervised at all times by an adult. Please do not drive thru the campground during the duration and help us keep this event safe. Wagon rides: $3/participant

We are embracing the fall season with fall colors, scarecrows, pumpkins, hayrides and more. During our 'Fall Bash' event participants will make corn husk scarecrows, candle dip candles into candy corn colors, go on a pumpkin and scarecrow trivia search and enjoy an old fashion hayride. Participants for this program must be 8 years or older. Pre-registration is required for this program. Space is limited.

Experience sugar cane syrup making the old-fashioned way as we cook cane juice in the original kettles and press sugar cane on the steam powered press.
