I love book stores so much. Browsing books, looking at the beautiful cover designs, reading the excerpts on the back. The feeling and smell of a fresh book.

While waiting for my train yesterday I picked up two books and already read half of the first - which is great so far! („Vanishing World“ by Sayaka Murata.

In Germany you cannot carry firearms in public so mostly police officers or soldiers carry them. But there’s a few exceptions, for example people who transport money can carry them and it’s always so weird to see them on the street with guns attached to their belts.

I cannot imagine living in a country where everyone can carry guns. I’m 100% for strict gun laws regarding who can own a gun and even stricter rules about who can carry what kind of firearm.

Knowing that the average aggressive person on the street _at most_ carries a knife is a very reassuring feeling (although knifes are dangerous, too)

Building cities of stone with little plants and almost no grass between houses was a mistake.

It’s so hot and there’s so little shade, and shade from houses doesn’t cool the air as much as shade from trees does.

I hope in the next 10 years we can unseal the grounds and make our cities greener with more plants on all levels: on the ground as well as on top of buildings.

Tech Fatigue has always been a thing but with AI it became a lot worse for me. I rarely enjoy the day to day tech world, and I fell less and less inspired to create anything at all.

I wonder if part of the defense strategy against LLMs could be to have a `/llms.txt` page on our websites that just tells the LLM the site is no longer active.

As with all things text-generator related it depends a lot on how the thing is instructed, but I could image it helps lower a site „score“.

It’s insane how little choice users have when it comes to mobile phones.

Either you go with Apple, or Google, or de-Googled-Android-but-Apps-may-not-work-because-they-rely-on-Google-services 🫩🫩🫩

Been looking at some Android phone and why the heck are all phones so big?! 6.3“ seems to be the smallest one can get, most I saw are somewhere around 6.6-6.8“

My smol iPhone SE is the perfect size for me and I really cannot imagine getting such a big phone again ._.

When I want a de-googled Android phone, but still need to use apps from Google Play, is there any alternative to buying a Pixel + GrapheneOS?

I have need for some apps with no FOSS alternative, and I have need for Play Services, but I want to keep them as low-privileged as possible, and ideally disable all trackers and stuff Google ships with Android by default.

Liquid Glass is so bad. I’ve got a new Mac, M5 Pro / 48GB RAM, and it feels so sluggish and slow.

The difference to my „old“ M2 / 32GB Mac is minimal from an UI point of view.

I hope apple reverses this horrible design decision; but I fear they’re too deep in to go back.

Moved all my notes back to @joplinapp after one year with @obsidian@mas.to.

Obsidian is great, and has a super nice and clean writing experience, but there's no way I could get syncing working with Nextcloud as a sync target.

Joplin comes with native @nextcloud integration, and I do prefer to have full control over where all my notes are stored.

Migration was super simple: Import from Markdown files. Wait a few minutes. Done. ✨

👀 Still going to keep an eye on Obsidian, and will use it on Desktop for not-synced note taking, but my main pile of notes is back in Joplin.
