2026-06-11RDMA/core: Add ib_frmr_pool_drop for unrecoverable handlesMichael Guralnik1-0/+1
A driver that has popped a handle from an FRMR pool can hit failures that leave the handle in a state where it can't safely be returned for reuse. The driver destroys the handle itself, but the pool has no way to learn about it, so the in_use counter drifts upward. Add ib_frmr_pool_drop to balance the pool's accounting in this case. Every pop is now balanced by exactly one push or drop. 2026-06-11RDMA/core: Fix FRMR handle leak on push failureMichael Guralnik1-1/+1
Failure to push a handle to the pool, caused by ENOMEM on queue page allocation, will trigger missing in_use counter update, skewing pool state indefinitely. Fix that by moving the handling of handle destruction in such case into the FRMR code, ensuring the handle is either pushed to the pool or destroyed inside the same function. Adjust mlx5_ib call site accordingly. 2026-06-08RDMA/nldev: Fix locking when accessing mr->pdJason Gunthorpe1-0/+5
Sashiko points out that, due to rereg_mr, the PD is actually variable and all the touches in nldev are racy. Use mr->device instead of mr->pd->device. Getting the PD restrack ID is more tricky. To avoid disturbing all the happy paths, add an rdma_restrack_sync() operation which is sort of like flush_workqueue() or synchronize_irq(): after it returns, all the old nldev touches to the mr are gone and everything sees the new PD. This makes it safe to reach into the PD pointer. If IB_MR_REREG_ACCESS changes from RO to RW then the umem has to be re-evaluated to ensure it is properly pinned as RW. Since the umem is hidden inside each driver's mr struct add a ib_umem_check_rereg() function that each driver has to call before processing IB_MR_REREG_ACCESS. mlx4 has to retain its duplicate ib_access_writable check because it implements IB_MR_REREG_ACCESS | IB_MR_REREG_TRANS by changing both items in place sequentially while the MR is live, so it will continue to not support this combination. 2026-05-29RDMA/uverbs: Expose CoCo DMA bounce requirement to userspaceJiri Pirko1-0/+3
In CoCo guests, guest memory is encrypted and untrusted (T=0) devices cannot DMA to it directly; such transfers must go through unencrypted bounce buffers. RDMA registers user pages for direct device access, bypassing the DMA layer and thus any bouncing, so registered memory does not work in this configuration. Until trusted (T=1) device detection is available, conservatively flag every device attached to a CoCo guest. Expose the condition to userspace as IB_UVERBS_DEVICE_CC_DMA_BOUNCE in device_cap_flags_ex so applications can avoid memory registration and fall back to copying buffers through send/recv. Extract the UVERBS_ATTR_CREATE_CQ_BUFFER_* parser from the CQ create handler into uverbs_create_cq_get_buffer_desc(), and wrap it in ib_umem_get_cq_tmp(), the umem-producing helper the cq_create handler now calls. ib_umem_get_cq_tmp() is temporary; subsequent patches replace it with driver-owned ib_umem_get_cq_buf*() wrappers built on the same parser, and remove it once all CQ drivers have switched. Sashiko points out the legacy write path in ib_uverbs_write() does allocate a struct uverbs_attr_bundle, but it doesn't wrap it in a bundle_priv so downcasting here isn't safe. Instead lift the method_elm out of the bundle_priv and use it for the debug function. The legacy write path will leave it set as NULL since the write method_elm uses a different type. 2026-03-08RDMA/umem: Add pinned revocable dmabuf import interfaceJacob Moroni1-0/+19
Added an interface for importing a pinned but revocable dmabuf. This interface can be used by drivers that are capable of revocation so that they can import dmabufs from exporters that may require it, such as VFIO. This interface implements a two step process, where drivers will first call ib_umem_dmabuf_get_pinned_revocable_and_lock() which will pin and map the dmabuf (and provide a functional move_notify/invalidate_mappings callback), but will return with the lock still held so that the driver can then populate the callback via ib_umem_dmabuf_set_revoke_locked() without races from concurrent revocations. This scheme also allows for easier integration with drivers that may not have actually allocated their internal MR objects at the time of the get_pinned_revocable* call. This flag can be set by drivers once they have finished auditing and implementing the full udata support on every udata operation. My intention going forward is that driver authors proposing new udata uAPI for their drivers must first do the work and set this flag. If this flag is not set the userspace should not try to use udata based uAPI newer than this commit, though on a case by case basis it may be OK based on what checks historical kernels performed on the specific call. For structures with comp_mask also absorb the check of comp_mask valid bits into the helper. This is slightly tricky because ~ might not fully extend to 64 bits, the helper inserts an explicit type to ensure that ~ covers all bits. Add a configuration of pinned handles on a specific FRMR pool. The configured amount of pinned handles will not be aged and will stay available for users to claim. Upon setting the amount of pinned handles to an FRMR pool, we will make sure we have at least the pinned amount of handles associated with the pool and create more, if necessary. The count for pinned handles take into account handles that are used by user MRs and handles in the queue. Introduce a new FRMR operation of build_key that allows drivers to manipulate FRMR keys supplied by the user, allowing failing for unsupported properties and masking of properties that are modifiable. 2026-03-02IB/core: Introduce FRMR poolsMichael Guralnik2-0/+45
Add a generic Fast Registration Memory Region pools mechanism to allow drivers to optimize memory registration performance. Drivers that have the ability to reuse MRs or their underlying HW objects can take advantage of the mechanism to keep a 'handle' for those objects and use them upon user request. We assume that to achieve this goal a driver and its HW should implement a modify operation for the MRs that is able to at least clear and set the MRs and in more advanced implementations also support changing a subset of the MRs properties. The mechanism is built using an RB-tree consisting of pools, each pool represents a set of MR properties that are shared by all of the MRs residing in the pool and are unmodifiable by the vendor driver or HW. The exposed API from ib_core to the driver has 4 operations: Init and cleanup - handles data structs and locks for the pools. Push and pop - store and retrieve 'handle' for a memory registration or deregistrations request. The FRMR pools mechanism implements the logic to search the RB-tree for a pool with matching properties and create a new one when needed and requires the driver to implement creation and destruction of a 'handle' when pool is empty or a handle is requested or is being destroyed. Later patch will introduce Netlink API to interact with the FRMR pools mechanism to allow users to both configure and track its usage. A vendor wishing to configure FRMR pool without exposing it or without exposing internal MR properties to users, should use the kernel_vendor_key field in the pools key. This can be useful in a few cases, e.g, when the FRMR handle has a vendor-specific un-modifiable property that the user registering the memory might not be aware of. 2026-02-08RDMA/uverbs: Add DMABUF object type and operationsYishai Hadas2-0/+10
Expose DMABUF functionality to userspace through the uverbs interface, enabling InfiniBand/RDMA devices to export PCI based memory regions (e.g. device memory) as DMABUF file descriptors. This allows zero-copy sharing of RDMA memory with other subsystems that support the dma-buf framework. A new UVERBS_OBJECT_DMABUF object type and allocation method were introduced. During allocation, uverbs invokes the driver to supply the rdma_user_mmap_entry associated with the given page offset (pgoff). Based on the returned rdma_user_mmap_entry, uverbs requests the driver to provide the corresponding physical-memory details as well as the driver’s PCI provider information. Using this information, dma_buf_export() is called; if it succeeds, uobj->object is set to the underlying file pointer returned by the dma-buf framework. The file descriptor number follows the standard uverbs allocation flow, but the file pointer comes from the dma-buf subsystem, including its own fops and private data. When an mmap entry is removed, uverbs iterates over its associated DMABUFs, marks them as revoked, and calls dma_buf_move_notify() so that their importers are notified. The same procedure applies during the disassociate flow; final cleanup occurs when the application closes the file. For smbdirect it required to use different ports depending on the RDMA protocol. E.g. for iWarp 5445 is needed (as tcp port 445 already used by the raw tcp transport for SMB), while InfiniBand, RoCEv1 and RoCEv2 use port 445, as they use an independent port range (even for RoCEv2, which uses udp port 4791 itself). Currently ksmbd is not able to function correctly at all if the system has iWarp (RDMA_NODE_RNIC) interface(s) and any InfiniBand, RoCEv1 and/or RoCEv2 interface(s) at the same time. And cifs.ko uses 5445 with a fallback to 445, which means depending on the available interfaces, it tries 5445 in the RoCE range or may tries iWarp with 445 as a fallback. This leads to strange error messages and strange network captures. To avoid these problems they will be able to use rdma_restrict_node_type(RDMA_NODE_RNIC) before trying port 5445 and rdma_restrict_node_type(RDMA_NODE_IB_CA) before trying port 445. It means we'll get early -ENODEV early from rdma_resolve_addr() without any network traffic and timeouts. This is designed to be called before calling any of rdma_bind_addr(), rdma_resolve_addr() or rdma_listen(). 2026-01-28RDMA/core: add rdma_rw_max_sge() helper for SQ sizingChuck Lever1-0/+2
svc_rdma_accept() computes sc_sq_depth as the sum of rq_depth and the number of rdma_rw contexts (ctxts). This value is used to allocate the Send CQ and to initialize the sc_sq_avail credit pool. However, when the device uses memory registration for RDMA operations, rdma_rw_init_qp() inflates the QP's max_send_wr by a factor of three per context to account for REG and INV work requests. The Send CQ and credit pool remain sized for only one work request per context, causing Send Queue exhaustion under heavy NFS WRITE workloads. Introduce rdma_rw_max_sge() to compute the actual number of Send Queue entries required for a given number of rdma_rw contexts. Upper layer protocols call this helper before creating a Queue Pair so that their Send CQs and credit accounting match the QP's true capacity. Update svc_rdma_accept() to use rdma_rw_max_sge() when computing sc_sq_depth, ensuring the credit pool reflects the work requests that rdma_rw_init_qp() will reserve. The bvec-based RDMA API currently returns -EOPNOTSUPP when Memory Region registration is required. This prevents iWARP devices from using the bvec path, since iWARP requires MR registration for RDMA READ operations. The force_mr debug parameter is also unusable with bvec input. Add rdma_rw_init_mr_wrs_bvec() to handle MR registration for bvec arrays. The approach creates a synthetic scatterlist populated with DMA addresses from the bvecs, then reuses the existing ib_map_mr_sg() infrastructure. This avoids driver changes while keeping the implementation small. The synthetic scatterlist is stored in the rdma_rw_ctx for cleanup. On destroy, the MRs are returned to the pool and the bvec DMA mappings are released using the stored addresses. The bvec RDMA API maps each bvec individually via dma_map_phys(), requiring an IOTLB sync for each mapping. For large I/O operations with many bvecs, this overhead becomes significant. The two-step IOVA API (dma_iova_try_alloc / dma_iova_link / dma_iova_sync) allocates a contiguous IOVA range upfront, links all physical pages without IOTLB syncs, then performs a single sync at the end. This reduces IOTLB flushes from O(n) to O(1). It also requires only a single output dma_addr_t compared to extra per-input element storage in struct scatterlist. The existing rdma_rw_ctx_init() API requires callers to construct a scatterlist, which is then DMA-mapped page by page. Callers that already have data in bio_vec form (such as the NVMe-oF target) must first convert to scatterlist, adding overhead and complexity. Introduce rdma_rw_ctx_init_bvec() and rdma_rw_ctx_destroy_bvec() to accept bio_vec arrays directly. The new helpers use dma_map_phys() for hardware RDMA devices and virtual addressing for software RDMA devices (rxe, siw), avoiding intermediate scatterlist construction. Memory registration (MR) path support is deferred to a follow-up series; callers requiring MR-based transfers (iWARP devices or force_mr=1) receive -EOPNOTSUPP and should use the scatterlist API. 2025-08-13RDMA/ucma: Support write an event into a CMMark Zhang1-1/+4
Enable user-space to inject an event into a CM through it's event channel. Two new events are added and supported: RDMA_CM_EVENT_USER and RDMA_CM_EVENT_INTERNAL. With these 2 events a new event parameter "arg" is supported, which is passed from sender to receiver transparently. With this feature an application is able to write an event into a CM channel with a new user-space rdmacm API. For example thread T1 could write an event with the API: rdma_write_cm_event(cm_id, RDMA_CM_EVENT_USER, status, arg); and thread T2 could receive the event with rdma_get_cm_event(). Add new UCMA command and the corresponding CMA implementation. Userspace can send this command to request service resolution based on service name or ID. On a successful resolution, one or multiple service records are returned, the first one will be used as destination address by default. Two new CM events are added and returned to caller accordingly: - RDMA_CM_EVENT_ADDRINFO_RESOLVED: Resolve succeeded; - RDMA_CM_EVENT_ADDRINFO_ERROR: Resolve failed. Internally two new CM states are added: - RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_QUERY: CM is in the process of IB service resolution; - RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_RESOLVED: CM has finished the resolve process. With these new states, beside existing state transfer processes, 2 new processes are supported: 1. The default address is used: RDMA_CM_ADDR_BOUND -> RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_QUERY -> RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_RESOLVED -> RDMA_CM_ROUTE_QUERY 2. To use a different address: RDMA_CM_ADDR_BOUND -> RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_QUERY-> RDMA_CM_ADDRINFO_RESOLVED -> RDMA_CM_ADDR_QUERY -> RDMA_CM_ADDR_RESOLVED -> RDMA_CM_ROUTE_QUERY In the 2nd case, resolve_addrinfo returns multiple records, a user could call rdma_resolve_addr() with the one that is not the first. Introduce a new DMA handle (DMAH) object along with its corresponding allocation and deallocation APIs. This DMAH object encapsulates attributes intended for use in DMA transactions. While its initial purpose is to support TPH functionality, it is designed to be extensible for future features such as DMA PCI multipath, PCI UIO configurations, PCI traffic class selection, and more. Further details: ---------------- We ensure that a caller requesting a DMA handle for a specific CPU ID is permitted to be scheduled on it. This prevent a potential security issue where a non privilege user may trigger DMA operations toward a CPU that it's not allowed to run on. We manage reference counting for the DMAH object and its consumers (e.g., memory regions) as will be detailed in subsequent patches in the series. Add ioctl command attributes and a common handling for the option to create CQs with memory buffers passed from userspace. When required attributes are supplied, create umem and provide it for driver's use. The extension enables creation of CQs on top of preallocated CPU virtual or device memory buffers, by supplying VA or dmabuf fd, in a common way. 2025-06-26RDMA/core: Extend RDMA device registration to be net namespace awareMark Bloch1-2/+9
Presently, RDMA devices are always registered within the init network namespace, even if the associated devlink device's namespace was changed via a devlink reload. This mismatch leads to discrepancies between the network namespace of the devlink device and that of the RDMA device. Therefore, extend the RDMA device allocation API to optionally take the net namespace. This isn't limited to devices that support devlink but allows all users to provide the network namespace if they need to do so. If a network namespace is provided during device allocation, it's up to the caller to make sure the namespace stays valid until ib_register_device() is called. 2025-06-25RDMA/core: Add driver APIs pre_destroy_cq() and post_destroy_cq()Mark Zhang1-0/+9
Currently in ib_free_cq, it disables IRQ or cancel the CQ work before driver destroy_cq. This isn't good as a new IRQ or a CQ work can be submitted immediately after disabling IRQ or canceling CQ work, which may run concurrently with destroy_cq and cause crashes. The right flow should be: 1. Driver disables CQ to make sure no new CQ event will be submitted; 2. Disables IRQ or Cancels CQ work in core layer, to make sure no CQ polling work is running; 3. Free all resources to destroy the CQ. This patch adds 2 driver APIs: - pre_destroy_cq(): Disable a CQ to prevent it from generating any new work completions, but not free any kernel resources; - post_destroy_cq(): Free all kernel resources. In ib_free_cq, the IRQ is disabled or CQ work is canceled after pre_destroy_cq, and before post_destroy_cq. Whenever a new counter is created, save inside it the user requested configuration for optional-counters binding, for manual configuration it is requested directly by the user and for the automatic configuration it depends on if the automatic binding was enabled with or without optional-counters binding. This argument will later be used by the driver to determine if to bind the optional-counters as well or not when trying to bind this counter to a QP. It indicates that when binding counters to a QP we also want the currently enabled link optional-counters to be bound as well. 2025-03-13RDMA/uverbs: Propagate errors from rdma_lookup_get_uobject()Maher Sanalla1-1/+1
Currently, the IB uverbs API calls uobj_get_uobj_read(), which in turn uses the rdma_lookup_get_uobject() helper to retrieve user objects. In case of failure, uobj_get_uobj_read() returns NULL, overriding the error code from rdma_lookup_get_uobject(). The IB uverbs API then translates this NULL to -EINVAL, masking the actual error and complicating debugging. For example, applications calling ibv_modify_qp that fails with EBUSY when retrieving the QP uobject will see the overridden error code EINVAL instead, masking the actual error. Furthermore, based on rdma-core commit: "2a22f1ced5f3 ("Merge pull request #1568 from jakemoroni/master")" Kernel's IB uverbs return values are either ignored and passed on as is to application or overridden with other errnos in a few cases. Thus, to improve error reporting and debuggability, propagate the original error from rdma_lookup_get_uobject() instead of replacing it with EINVAL. 2025-03-09RDMA/uverbs: Introduce UCAP (User CAPabilities) APIChiara Meiohas1-0/+30
Implement a new User CAPabilities (UCAP) API to provide fine-grained control over specific firmware features. This approach offers more granular capabilities than the existing Linux capabilities, which may be too generic for certain FW features. This mechanism represents each capability as a character device with root read-write access. Root processes can grant users special privileges by allowing access to these character devices (e.g., using chown). UCAP character devices are located in /dev/infiniband and the class path is /sys/class/infiniband_ucaps. However the real problem is that hw counters should never been exposed outside of the non-init net namespace. Fix this by saving the index of the corresponding attribute group (it might be 1 or 2 depending on the presence of driver-specific attributes) and zeroing the pointer to hw_counters group for compat devices during the initialization. 2024-12-24RDMA/core: Support link status events dispatchingYuyu Li1-0/+17
Currently the dispatching of link status events is implemented by each RDMA driver independently, and most of them have very similar patterns. Add support for this in ib_core so that we can get rid of duplicate codes in each driver. A new last_port_state is added in ib_port_cache to cache the port state of the last link status events dispatching. The original port_state in ib_port_cache is not used here because it will be updated when ib_dispatch_event() is called, which means it may be changed between two link status events, and may lead to a loss of event dispatching. Some drivers currently have some private stuff in their link status events handler in addition to event dispatching, and cannot be perfectly integrated into the ib_core handling process. For these drivers, add a new ops report_port_event() so that they can keep their current processing. Finally, events of LAG devices are not supported yet in this patch as currently there is no way to obtain ibdev from upper netdev in ib_core. This can be a TODO work after the core have more support for LAG. 2024-09-13RDMA/mlx5: Use IB set_netdev and get_netdev functionsChiara Meiohas1-0/+2
The IB layer provides a common interface to store and get net devices associated to an IB device port (ib_device_set_netdev() and ib_device_get_netdev()). Previously, mlx5_ib stored and managed the associated net devices internally. Replace internal net device management in mlx5_ib with ib_device_set_netdev() when attaching/detaching a net device and ib_device_get_netdev() when retrieving the net device. Export ib_device_get_netdev(). For mlx5 representors/PFs/VFs and lag creation we replace the netdev assignments with the IB set/get netdev functions. In active-backup mode lag the active slave net device is stored in the lag itself. To assure the net device stored in a lag bond IB device is the active slave we implement the following: - mlx5_core: when modifying the slave of a bond we send the internal driver event MLX5_DRIVER_EVENT_ACTIVE_BACKUP_LAG_CHANGE_LOWERSTATE. - mlx5_ib: when catching the event call ib_device_set_netdev() This patch also ensures the correct IB events are sent in switchdev lag. While at it, when in multiport eswitch mode, only a single IB device is created for all ports. The said IB device will receive all netdev events of its VFs once loaded, thus to avoid overwriting the mapping of PF IB device to PF netdev, ignore NETDEV_REGISTER events if the ib device has already been mapped to a netdev. This patch adds 2 APIs, as well as driver operations to support adding and deleting an IB sub device, which provides part of functionalities of it's parent. A sub device has a type; for a sub device with type "SMI", it provides the smi capability through umad for its parent, meaning uverb is not supported. A sub device cannot live without a parent. So when a parent is released, all it's sub devices are released as well. To avoid leakage for QPs assocoated with SRQ, according to IB spec (section 10.3.1): "Note, for QPs that are associated with an SRQ, the Consumer should take the QP through the Error State before invoking a Destroy QP or a Modify QP to the Reset State. The Consumer may invoke the Destroy QP without first performing a Modify QP to the Error State and waiting for the Affiliated Asynchronous Last WQE Reached Event. However, if the Consumer does not wait for the Affiliated Asynchronous Last WQE Reached Event, then WQE and Data Segment leakage may occur. Therefore, it is good programming practice to teardown a QP that is associated with an SRQ by using the following process: - Put the QP in the Error State; - wait for the Affiliated Asynchronous Last WQE Reached Event; - either: - drain the CQ by invoking the Poll CQ verb and either wait for CQ to be empty or the number of Poll CQ operations has exceeded CQ capacity size; or - post another WR that completes on the same CQ and wait for this WR to return as a WC; - and then invoke a Destroy QP or Reset QP." Catch the Last WQE Reached Event in the core layer during drain QP flow. -Wflex-array-member-not-at-end is coming in GCC-14, and we are getting ready to enable it globally. There are currently a couple of objects (`alloc_head` and `bundle`) in `struct bundle_priv` that contain a couple of flexible structures: struct bundle_priv { /* Must be first */ struct bundle_alloc_head alloc_head; ... /* * Must be last. bundle ends in a flex array which overlaps * internal_buffer. */ struct uverbs_attr_bundle bundle; u64 internal_buffer[32]; }; So, in order to avoid ending up with a couple of flexible-array members in the middle of a struct, we use the `struct_group_tagged()` helper to separate the flexible array from the rest of the members in the flexible structures: struct uverbs_attr_bundle { struct_group_tagged(uverbs_attr_bundle_hdr, hdr, ... the rest of the members ); struct uverbs_attr attrs[]; }; With the change described above, we now declare objects of the type of the tagged struct without embedding flexible arrays in the middle of another struct: struct bundle_priv { /* Must be first */ struct bundle_alloc_head_hdr alloc_head; ... struct uverbs_attr_bundle_hdr bundle; u64 internal_buffer[32]; }; We also use `container_of()` whenever we need to retrieve a pointer to the flexible structures. When a struct containing a flexible array is included in another struct, and there is a member after the struct-with-flex-array, there is a possibility of memory overlap. These cases must be audited [1]. See: struct inner { ... int flex[]; }; struct outer { ... struct inner header; int overlap; ... }; This is the scenario for all the "struct *_filter" structures that are included in the following "struct ib_flow_spec_*" structures: struct ib_flow_spec_eth struct ib_flow_spec_ib struct ib_flow_spec_ipv4 struct ib_flow_spec_ipv6 struct ib_flow_spec_tcp_udp struct ib_flow_spec_tunnel struct ib_flow_spec_esp struct ib_flow_spec_gre struct ib_flow_spec_mpls The pattern is like the one shown below: struct *_filter { ... u8 real_sz[]; }; struct ib_flow_spec_* { ... struct *_filter val; struct *_filter mask; }; In this case, the trailing flexible array "real_sz" is never allocated and is only used to calculate the size of the structures. Here the use of the "offsetof" helper can be changed by the "sizeof" operator because the goal is to get the size of these structures. Therefore, the trailing flexible arrays can also be removed. However, due to the trailing padding that can be induced in structs it is possible that the: offsetof(struct *_filter, real_sz) != sizeof(struct *_filter) This situation happens with the "struct ib_flow_ipv6_filter" and to avoid it the "__packed" macro is used in this structure. But now, the "sizeof(struct ib_flow_ipv6_filter)" has changed. This is not a problem since this size is not used in the code. The situation now is that "sizeof(struct ib_flow_spec_ipv6)" has also changed (this struct contains the struct ib_flow_ipv6_filter). This is also not a problem since it is only used to set the size of the "union ib_flow_spec", which can store all the "ib_flow_spec_*" structures. The current iterator doesn't account for either the preceding 4k pages or the following 4k pages. Fix the issue by extending the ib_block_iter to contain the number of DMA pages like comment [1] says and by using __sg_advance to start the iterator at the first live HCA page. The changes are contained in a parallel set of iterator start and next functions that are umem aware and specific to umem since there is one user of the rdma_for_each_block() without umem. These two fixes prevents the extra pages before and after the user MR data. Fix the preceding pages by using the __sq_advance field to start at the first 4k page containing MR data. Fix the following pages by saving the number of pgsz blocks in the iterator state and downcounting on each next. This fix allows for the elimination of the small page crutch noted in the Fixes. Adding an #ifdef around the new code, or a Kconfig dependency would address this problem, but adding the compile-time check inside of the UAPI_DEF_CHAIN_OBJ_TREE_NAMED() macro seems best because that also addresses the problem in other drivers that may run into the same dependency. This is used in the ib_uses_virt_dma() style drivers (siw, rxe, hfi, qib). 2022-12-09RDMA: Extend RDMA kernel verbs ABI to support flushLi Zhijian2-1/+20
This commit extends the RDMA kernel verbs ABI to support the flush operation defined in IBA A19.4.1. These changes are backward compatible with the existing RDMA kernel verbs ABI. It makes device/HCA support new FLUSH attributes/capabilities, and it also makes memory region support new FLUSH access flags. Users can use ibv_reg_mr(3) to register flush access flags. Only the access flags also supported by device's capabilities can be registered successfully. Once registered successfully, it means the MR is flushable. Similarly, A flushable MR should also have one or both of GLOBAL_VISIBILITY and PERSISTENT attributes/capabilities like device/HCA. 2022-09-22RDMA/cma: Multiple path records support with netlink channelMark Zhang2-1/+8
Support receiving inbound and outbound IB path records (along with GMP PathRecord) from user-space service through the RDMA netlink channel. The LIDs in these 3 PRs can be used in this way: 1. GMP PR: used as the standard local/remote LIDs; 2. DLID of outbound PR: Used as the "dlid" field for outbound traffic; 3. DLID of inbound PR: Used as the "dlid" field for outbound traffic in responder side. This is aimed to support adaptive routing. With current IB routing solution when a packet goes out it's assigned with a fixed DLID per target, meaning a fixed router will be used. The LIDs in inbound/outbound path records can be used to identify group of routers that allow communication with another subnet's entity. With them packets from an inter-subnet connection may travel through any router in the set to reach the target. As confirmed with Jason, when sending a netlink request, kernel uses LS_RESOLVE_PATH_USE_ALL so that the service knows kernel supports multiple PRs. Add a netevent callback for cma, mainly to catch NETEVENT_NEIGH_UPDATE. Previously, when a system with failover MAC mechanism change its MAC address during a CM connection attempt, the RDMA-CM would take a lot of time till it disconnects and timesout due to the incorrect MAC address. Now when we get a NETEVENT_NEIGH_UPDATE we check if it is due to a failover MAC change and if so, we instantly destroy the CM and notify the user in order to spare the unnecessary waiting for the timeout. An optional counter is a driver-specific counter that may be dynamically enabled/disabled. This enhancement allows drivers to expose counters which are, for example, mutually exclusive and cannot be enabled at the same time, counters that might degrades performance, optional debug counters, etc. Optional counters are marked with IB_STAT_FLAG_OPTIONAL flag. They are not exported in sysfs, and must be at the end of all stats, otherwise the attr->show() in sysfs would get wrong indexes for hwcounters that are behind optional counters. orig_nents should represent the number of entries with pages, but __sg_alloc_table_from_pages sets orig_nents as the number of total entries in the table. This is wrong when the API is used for dynamic allocation where not all the table entries are mapped with pages. It wasn't observed until now, since RDMA umem who uses this API in the dynamic form doesn't use orig_nents implicit or explicit by the scatterlist APIs. Fix it by changing the append API to track the SG append table state and have an API to free the append table according to the total number of entries in the table. Now all APIs set orig_nents as number of enries with pages. The rdmavt QP has fields that are both needed for the control and data path. Such mixed declaration caused to the very specific allocation flow with kzalloc_node and SGE list embedded into the struct rvt_qp. This patch separates QP creation to two: regular memory allocation for the control path and specific code for the SGE list, while the access to the later is performed through derefenced pointer. Such pointer and its context are expected to be in the cache, so performance difference is expected to be negligible, if any exists. 2021-06-16RDMA/core: Split port and device counter sysfs attributesJason Gunthorpe1-2/+2
This code creates a 'struct hw_stats_attribute' for each sysfs entry that contains a naked 'struct attribute' inside. It then proceeds to attach this same structure to a 'struct device' kobj and a 'struct ib_port' kobj. However, this violates the typing requirements. 'struct device' requires the attribute to be a 'struct device_attribute' and 'struct ib_port' requires the attribute to be 'struct port_attribute'. This happens to work because the show/store function pointers in all three structures happen to be at the same offset and happen to be nearly the same signature. This means when container_of() was used to go between the wrong two types it still managed to work. However clang CFI detection notices that the function pointers have a slightly different signature. As with show/store this was only working because the device and port struct layouts happened to have the kobj at the front. Correct this by have two independent sets of data structures for the port and device case. The two different attributes correctly include the port/device_attribute struct and everything from there up is kept split. The show/store function call chains start with device/port unique functions that invoke a common show/store function pointer. 2021-06-16RDMA: Split the alloc_hw_stats() ops to port and device variantsJason Gunthorpe1-6/+7
This is being used to implement both the port and device global stats, which is causing some confusion in the drivers. For instance EFA and i40iw both seem to be misusing the device stats. Split it into two ops so drivers that don't support one or the other can leave the op NULL'd, making the calling code a little simpler to understand. 2021-04-12IB/cma: Introduce rdma_set_min_rnr_timer()Håkon Bugge1-0/+2
Introduce the ability for kernel ULPs to adjust the minimum RNR Retry timer. The INIT -> RTR transition executed by RDMA CM will be used for this adjustment. This avoids an additional ib_modify_qp() call. rdma_set_min_rnr_timer() must be called before the call to rdma_connect() on the active side and before the call to rdma_accept() on the passive side. The default value of RNR Retry timer is zero, which translates to 655 ms. When the receiver is not ready to accept a send messages, it encodes the RNR Retry timer value in the NAK. The requestor will then wait at least the specified time value before retrying the send. The 5-bit value to be supplied to the rdma_set_min_rnr_timer() is documented in IBTA Table 45: "Encoding for RNR NAK Timer Field". 2021-04-07IB/{ipoib,hfi1}: Add a timeout handler for rdma_netdevMike Marciniszyn1-0/+2
The current rdma_netdev handling in ipoib hooks the tx_timeout handler, but prints out a totally useless message that prevents effective debugging especially when multiple transmit queues are being used. Add a tx_timeout rdma_netdev hook and implement the callback in the hfi1 to print additional information. The existing non-helpful message is avoided when the driver has presented a callback.
